Fuel Injectors

I recently bought my 2007 e90 335i used. I have read that this was the year that was famous for bad fuel pumps and fuel injectors. The car has mods such as jb4,intake, exhaust and downpipe. My question is since i don't have warranty where should i take it to check if it has the upgraded fuel pumps and injectors? I know obviously to take it to bmw, but can a shop that knows about these cars do it? Because i know Bmw will try to make insane prices for this. What do they have to do to check?

Thanks

Just go to BMW and request for all the service history invoices. From those documents you can see what has been done before and with what part numbers.

If you take it to a shop, they would probably have to take out the part and look for stickers or labels indicating the part number, and you can check whether they are new or not. Not so easy to take out the HPFP. To be honest, you shouldn't worry about them until they actually fail. I know the HPFP is a common problem but the injectors??? There might be a few cases but it's far from being a common problem.

I took my out of warranty, modded car in for the injector/hpfp recall and didn't have any problems at the dealer.

If your vehicle has an open campaign (recall) on either of those items, but has not yet had them completed then BMW should still replace those for you. Recalls don't have anything to do with warranty, but more so "safety". Take it to the dealer and have them look you up.

If replaced with the new BMW injectors (new part #), does the problem persist?

Tischer is selling fuel injectors for $107.73 each. Not that bad compared to dealers wanting $300+ each. Is the DIY difficult or easy?

I think there is coding that has to be done on the injectors by the stealership.

You have to recalibrate the ecu for new injectors somehow. Not sure about the procedure but you can search around. I don't think it's something you can't do yourself.

I have a 2007 and had the injectors fail at 20,000. The new ones seem bulletproof.

Damnit.. that is really bad news. I will search around.

In the worst case scenario, can I bring in my own parts (ordered from Tischer) and then have them install + reprogram the car? If so, do you guyys know how much would labor cost for this?

New injectors post recall can still go bad - already had a full set changed out.

Injector install is very easy, but you'll need to find a shop with a GT1 to calibrate them. It takes about 30-45 min to install a complete set of injectors and about 10 min to calibrate them.

Thank you for this information. Can I assume that any BMW indy shop will have this GT1 machine?
