i get around 18.5 and i drive freeway (free flowing) about 40% then traffic/local about 60% so i'd say you're around normal

I average 19.5 to 22.5 mpg on my daily mixed city/hwy commute. The difference seems to be in whether or not I catch the lights correctly. On a trip from St Louis to KC and back a few weekends ago, I averaged 27mpg through two tanks.

Overall, these numbers aren't far off from my last daily, a 2007 GTI.

I was getting 16 MPG for a while until I swap out the air filter I got from the dealer to K&N filter. I now get 21 MPG.

I can't really speak about 328i average mpg, but here are a few things to check that can make it better in general.
1. Tire pressure. Driving on under inflated tires can cause bad mpg.
2. Your right foot. Stomping on the accelerator will dramatically drop your mpg.
3. Fuel grade. If you can, try some ethanol-free 93 octane gas.
4. Maintenance. Make sure you change your fluids and filters on time.

Would anyone believe me if I said I was getting 35+mpg on the highway? I just drove down to LA from SF on the 101 and was getting about 36.7 until I hit traffic on the 405.

I thought it was just screwy, but on the way back(on I-5) I did 242 miles on a little more than 6.25 gallons.

Have 325 AT for reference.

Try resetting the mpg. Sometimes it has carry over from the previous tank of fuel and gets quite confused.... My 335i was running at 18 litres per 100 k's and when refilled and reset at time of petrol bowser now running 13 litres per 100 klm's

Can anyone else confirm if this helps? I know K&N suggest you will get I creased torque, bhp & mpg but how true is this? Also a lifetime warrenty, you just wash it?

I must admit I went from 118d to 330i and I am doing double near triple the amount of filling up, I thought something was wrong. Just going to have to stop taking the girlfriend out so I can afford the petrol

Haven't had more than a few days on mine but as of right now i'm doin about 21 mixed driving...A little better than my 2011 5.0 was doing and a lot better than my F-150. I'm happy

Ya City bmw's arnt that great they do get really good highway mpg though if you can keep yourself from going fast. I avg'd 35-38mpg 55mph from NJ to VA. Thats range of 550miles not to shabby if you ask me. Mine gets about 20-23 if I baby her in city but thats alot of rolling and semi high gears to save gas. If you have manual and work at it they arnt bad on gas.

I get around 14 mpg when i'm not gunning it all the time. I personally think stop signs are the worst on mpg, every time I get to a full stop and then give gas, my mpg just goes down to 6mpg no matter what. I'm also xdrive so i'm sure that makes a little difference. Highest i've ever hit is 28mpg but on average my highest was about 23mpg. Not happy with that.

Of all the vehicles I've owned this one has the biggest change from city/highway. I can get great hwy MPG... even better if passing in 4th wasn't so damn fun (I drive a lot of single-lane highways).

I was getting like 16 mpg (85% city) but then i got the jb4. now i get close to 14 mpg. My last tank was horrible though, 13mpg and the tank only lasted 165 miles! On the freeway I get pretty good mileage (in the high 20s and even low 30s sometimes) if im not smashing around but i never get to drive on the damn freeway

My old E46 330i averaged around 26 mpg 50/50 city/hwy with that number jumping to 30-31 mpg on long highway drives and this was with daily trips to redline .

I average 21mpg with the 335 (same commute), and I've seen up to 26 mpg on a long drive, and as low as 17 in the city.

Hell, I got 30mpg in my old E34 5 series with the V8 and 175000 miles on the car!

If you guys are getting less than 30mpg hwy with an I6, something is seriously wrong with something, as mentioned before check:

Tire pressure
Fuel octane (min 91) and ethanol content (ethanol free is 10% more mpg than E10)
Air Filter (change every year)
Hell, just keep up with all maintenance, and remember CBS oil change intervals are a joke, do 10K max (7.5K on N54/55)

I figure the 335 would be more efficient than the 325 (based solely on the fact that the new 3 series gets an EPA 34 highway mpg using the turbos). Formshits and giggles I looked up the EPA for my car and it's 28 mpg, from SF to outskirts of LA on the 101 I was doing 36.7.

I have a eurobox intake with k&n, though I seriously doubt that does anything. I did draft on a semi for about 50 miles where my indicator was hovering at 50mpg while doing 65 mph.

I also thought about over inflating my tires for the trip - the 29/34 front back guideline I assume maximizes for both mpg and handling, while higher pressure would maximize mpg at the cost of handling. Any thoughts on this? I didn't do it, but thought it might help given that I drove 800 miles more or less in a straight line with no passengers.

what annoys isnt so much the shitty mpg itself, but the fact that my friend's m3 has twice the power for only a couple mpg less. lol

since I do mostly highway driving I run higher air pressure, but higher pressure can also improve handling under the correct conditions, or change the handling characteristics so the loss of traction is more predictable
