Wifey and are are heading to Blighty on Thursday. We're touring the Salisbury Plain area (Stonehenge, Glastonbury, Bath, Salisbury) from Friday until Wednesday and then we'll be in London from Wednesday until Tuesday. Wifey has a conference that weekend and forgot to book me a space for the Friday night lecture and dinner (oh drat ). So I get to have Friday evening to shoot London at night. I was planning on a trip to the London Eye. Dave, I seem to remember you saying that they are pretty restrictive on gear at the Eye and their website seems to confirm that. Their FAQ states "no multiple lenses" among other prohibitions. I have written to the Eye's press office asking for clarification, especially with regards to monopods, which are not mentioned in their FAQs. Can you remind me what you experienced at the Eye, Dave?

We may also get to attend a private after-hours function at the Tower of London (White Tower). I'm really hoping they'll let me in with my camera.

If you catch this thread, Paul, can you add any advice or warnings about photography in London (or the aforementioned Salisbury Plain area)?

Yes = be careful if carrying camera round sensitive areas such as Canary wharf etc - MI5 buildings - They were pretty hot with security asking you to stop last time I was there. I was followed around Canary wharf!

Nice shots. Don't want to be a copycat, but I'll definitely check out those areas. I believe our hotel is right in that Big Ben neighborhood.

We fly out this Thursday and come back Oct 2nd. We're in London itself from next Wednesday until we leave. The rest of the trip will be driving around the Salisbury Plain area.

I heard back from the London Eye press office. The idiots just copy/pasted a line from their website about no tripods or large lenses in an email and added greetings and a sign off. They completely avoided answering either of my two questions. Screw them.

No. I asked about having more than one lens and if a monopod would be ok. They specifically state on their website that if you plan on bringing photography equipment to arrange your visit with the press office. It seems the press office didn't get that memo.

Tried some street candids today at Leicester Square, London. You can't take a candid here without seeing a cell phone.
