Ha! I have the poll going over on the other E90 General section and it seems that “keep the badge” is winning 2-1!

Plans are to keep with the black/gold John Player Special theme. I think we’ll eventually do a wrap with perhaps a little more updated version of that theme?? Too soon to tell.

Phase 1 complete(ish). Extensive weight loss/Cage/suspension/widebody and super slimmed down wiring harness. We hoped to get her out for some test and tuning before the end of season but unfortunately it was just too tight of a timeline.

Phase 2 will be done over the winter. She’ll be torn down again to pull the drivetrain, reseal the engine, install an ACF bottom mount Borg Warner EFR single turbo, custom FMIC/radiator setup, BBK and some other goodies :-)

A few shots of her after Phase 1:

It's been a bit quiet now that the end of season has arrived. We're waiting on parts to arrive for the next phase, which includes StopTech BBK and ACF Bottom Mount Borg Warner EFR ST. We'll be pulling the drivetrain to reseal all rubber gaskets/etc., and the mad scientists at E-Fab plans on building some custom venting for the radiator/FMIC, and possibly some slight aero modifications. I'll continue keeping this post updated with developments over the winter. The countdown until track season is underway and it can't be here soon enough!

Stopped by the shop tonight... Who else thinks we should just do a big single turbo BMW N63 V8 swap??? (and yes, that’s snow on the motor)

I’m looking to buy this diffuser from hard. They mention that the rearmost mounting has to be custom fabricated and they used the exhaust hanger. Can you share pics of how you mounted yours?

Here's what the custom bracket looks like...

Mounted from behind...

And from inside with the floor of the trunk removed...

As you can see this mounts the diffuser to some actual structure (frame rails) instead of flopping around. Overkill? Maybe. But might as well do it properly while we're in there. At some point we plan to do away with the hard diffuser at it's a very mild diffuser.

Ultimately we may end up with a rear end that looks similar to karel021

If you've followed along up to this point, we found that the the Hard Motorsports widebody shown in the previous photos does not meet their max tire width claims. We found that it fit a max 285 width tire up front which is FAR from their claim of a 315. What did we do? We switched to a full WTCC widebody. The WTCC kit provides a full inch more of fender width up front which should allow us to fit our desired 305 tire nicely. This WTCC kit replaces the front bumper, front fenders, and rocker panels, while the rear pieces overlay the existing fender (which needs to be modified, shown below). Not to mention fitment and future uninstall/reinstall will be a piece of cake.

Rockers and rear fenders before install...

Front bumper (the car was wedged in the corner - better photos to come shortly)

Front fender. This should allow us to fit a 305 tire nicely

How she looked before the widebody and some serious sheet metal work...

The previous owner did some "minor" trimming to try and fit the added tire width. Think it still rubbed?? Time for some major sheet metal surgery...

After the mad scientist cut out the outer and inner rear fender. Think this will give us some needed wheel travel??

More trimming...

Getting the contour of the new fender profile...

Inner and outer rear fenders welded together and new flat surface was added should there ever be any rubbing over large bumps...

Job well done as always! Hope Hard Motorsports widebody can be returned as this is for sure really misleading... Who is the manufacture of WTCC style widebody kit (since I'm pretty sure its hard to obtain their real kit hehe)?

Did another stop by the shop today. So glad we went WTCC. This kit is so solid.

Rear fender without the widebody...

With the widebody...

Widebody from inside the wheel well (not yet finished). So clean. (bars used to keep the shape while it is being welded in)...

We had to cut the front bumper support bar to fit the front bumper. It definitely has a different profile from the stock e90 bumper. We'll end up having a custom support fabbed up that will fit under the wtcc bumper.

Front fender, so much added width

Look what arrived in the mail Vibrant HD clamps. #manjewelry

These should provide added reliability over the silicone intercooler connectors which continuously expand/contract under boost while enduring high engine bay temps on track.
