No price set but even if it´s $200 US, there´s at least 1.5 h of installation and most E90s will have to be updated in terms of software, which is also costly.

Jonathan, I just had another thought (as I wandered about.. pondering deep social issues and iPod integration)... I'm wondering if the system will be able to pause the iPod when an incomming call is received, such as it does for the CD player. Don't you hate it when you're listening to a favorite and inevitably someone calls!

I'm guessing it might not do that. Well at least we'll be able to skip back using the steering wheel controls. Still, I'd be interested to know if it will auto-pause.

I will find out - great question. There is of course two-way communication between the car and the iPod and the iPod MOST interface does look like a variant of a CD changer to the car so it is still possible. Since I don´t have a CD changer, does the changer also pause - or just the in dash player.

Naturally the iPod is paused when a call comes in. The CD stops, but the iPod when stopped doesn't start from the position from whence left, so it is paused as opposed to the CD which is stopped but start from the same position when started.

Thanks for sharing your well written and articulated thoughts with us. I think a quick trip to dictionary.com to look up the word "pause" might be in order for you.

Also needed for the word ,,whence`` since he wrote ,,from whence``

Well, until the real deal is available (and hopefully affordable), I will enjoy my new setup. I didn't invent this idea - I saw it a long time ago on the forum.. but I did take an extra step.

1. Bought the Griffin Air Click (found it on eBay at a great price).
2. Disassembled the remote unit and painted it with two coats of black and one coat of clear. I couldn't stand the natual white... it stood out like a sore thumb. Now it blends much better with the hand brake.

At least now I'm able to turn the iPod on or off, skip forward or backward through songs, and adjust volume. It's an improvement!

Looks great Led - the black paint blends it into the interior nicely.

Great video, I think this makes it all clear. I am not going to complain about the CD1 thru 6 thing, it is a quantum leap from what we have right now...

While we are being pedantic (my favourite past time BTW )

From dicionary.com:

Quote:
Usage Note: The construction from whence has been criticized as redundant since the 18th century. It is true that whence incorporates the sense of from: a remote village, whence little news reached the wider world. But from whence has been used steadily by reputable writers since the 14th century, most notably in the King James Bible: “I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help” (Psalms). Such a respectable precedent makes it difficult to label the construction as incorrect. Still, it may be observed that whence (like thence) is most often used nowadays to impart an archaic or highly formal tone to a passage, and that this effect is probably better realized if the archaic syntax of the word without from is preserved as well.
So, while technically correct, my dislike of redundancy makes me tend to agree with you. I also think the sentiment expressed at the end of the usage note gets it in that if you want to use archaic words for effect, then you must really go the whole hog and not mix in modern syntax...

I really have to say that this little gizmo had made life with the crappy iPod integration bearable.

Well, when you are a lover, not a fighter, you have to be able to do the mental tap dance in order to avoid being smacked in the head at a pub, esp when wearing said pink shirt!

K I am still facing the same ipod problem and am hoping someone out there has a solution for me. In attempting to set up the "good overall ipod solution" I ran into a problem with the airclick part. I have the new video ipod which, for use with the airclick, requires that I tie up the dock connector on the bottom. That prevents me from being able to also have the monster charger plugged in at the same time.

So i need help finding a solution where I can be charging at all times, and using a wireless remote, so that I can have the mess of wires tucked away in the arm rest.

PLEASE HELP!!!

I believe that previously, BMW has actually used Dension kit and I see that they just have launched a unit for connecting an Ipod to a BMW using called the Link Gateway 500 - D2B MOST fibre optic infotainment system.

My guess is that this is the kit that BMW will fit:

Not true. BMW developed its own iPod Interface and was the first vehicle mfr. to do so. Granted, the first generation was so so (the Dension ice:Link was much better comparatively).

The new iPod Interface is also BMW´s.

I remember reading an article in Bimmer magazine about BMW's technology office in Palo Alto, CA. It seems the origiinal iPod interface was developed there... right in the middle of the Silicon Valley.

I watched the movie and discovered that the Sirius radio (which I've never activated) will prevent me from having this installed.

Bummer for my bimmer!
