Few Issues
Hello all,
Recently I had work done to my car (2008 BMW 328XI). I had my vehicle diagnosed by RoadShow BMW in Memphis, TN and I had the top 3 important issues fixed which was the: 1) Oxygen Sensor 2) 3 Coils were miss firing but I decided to replace all 6 3) And for some reason the oil and tubings were caked up so I had an entire flush. There are a few other issues with the vehicle and I was curious if there were any specialist in here that could give me a price range to fix these other issues my vehicle is having: 1) Oil Filter Housing Gasket: LEAKING (Dealer Charging: $557.26) 2) Valve Cover Gasket Replace: LEAKING (Dealer Charging $726.45) 3) Brake Flush: Over Due (Dealer Charging $129.95) 4) Both Brake Sensors: (Dealer Charging 167.56) What are the opinions on dealer pricing? I know they have to make their money but I was wondering if my best option (as I am on a budget) to go to an indie shop? I'm assuming all of this is an affordable repair at an indie shop? David |

Without you providing any historical information about your car, which really helps us in trying to give you answers, and assuming the car has been maintained to BMW spec (i.e. someone has been following the CBS schedule at a minimum), to me it sounds like this dealer is giving you a lot of BS. First off, how did they know your "oil and tubings" were "caked" unless they took the engine apart or somehow got a boroscope into the lubrication system how would they know?
Brake flush, not a bad price, but the car notifies you when it is due. Have you been ignoring it? The flush is due every 24 months past the build date (found on the sticker on the driver's door jamb). Is the CBS providing a red notification that the brake flush is due? And the real giveaway, brake sensors. Brake sensors are only replaced when the brake pads are replaced; you never replace the brake sensors by themselves unless they have been previously broken by someone trying to remove them, someone did not install them at the last brake service and tied the old ones off, or the harness (wires) get damaged, which is quite difficult to do if they follow the factory routing locations. The brake sensors were put in by some idiot when I had my brand new brakes put in. So I am just going to find a cheap pair that will work and pay labor at an Indy shop for that. I've never seen a brake flush indictor nor even knows what that indication looks like... |
