Your Car Sent a TeleService Request...

I just received an email:

Quote:
Dear xxx

Your 2011 BMW 335is sent a service request for standard scope, engine oil, and rear brake services...at BMW of Rockville...
Problem is I don't have a 2011 335is and I've never done business at BMW of Rockville. I have a 2009 335i and I've gone to 2 other dealers for service. I checked my iDrive and it doesn't need service for another 10k miles. Should I even bother contacting them back?

Tell them you dropped it off already and they should deliver it to your home.

Yeah, I would call them and let them know they screwed up.

Wait, my X5 sent me an email right before Thanksgiving. I ignored it because I assumed it was spam. It said the vehicle needed servicing and that I should call and schedule an appointment. I ignored it and a couple days later the service needed light came on. Anyway, I left town for Thanksgiving and when I returned a couple days later I got a call from the dealer asking me if I was aware that my X5 had sent me an email alert indicating that it needed servicing.

The person claimed the X5 had emailed them too and that I needed the interior air filter replaced and the inspection decal. I asked the person point blank if they had received a message from my truck and she said yes.

Its a 2011 X5 premium package with navigation if that helps.

So I contacted the SA at the dealer and she said my name and address is registered for that car in TeleService Data. Hmm...maybe I should claim it's mine and tell them they owe me a 2011 335is.

I would. It's obviously a clerical error on someone's part.

These cars can send a message when they need service. Can't say how exactly that process works. I assume it goes to BMW Assist datacenter, then to the dealership of record, then to the owner from them.....
