Bad gas; syphon or use it?

I tried filling up this afternoon but the nozzle kept stopping and when I'd try to reposition it, gas poured down my car. I went through this three times and when I pulled the nozzle the gas pouring out looked to be black. Less than a gallon went into the tank. As I drove away from this shitty Chevron station in Vallejo, the 'service engine soon' light came up on my dash. Car seems to be running fine, but I'm worried the black looking gas could clog a fuel pump or fuel injector. I just got my oil changed yesterday too
Can any techs or home mechanics out there advise if I should have the tank dropped and emptied, if I should try to syphon the tank or just add gas and run it?

Add good gas and don't worry about it.

Any chance you weren't paying attention and were trying to fill the tank with diesel rather than gasoline. What you said about the car not accepting the fuel doesn't make sense other than the fuel nozzle not fitting the filler neck.

No. The tank had a gas pump and a diesel pump; I didn't grab the diesel pump. It's an older style nozzle; shorter neck with accordion. Seemed like the neck wasn't going far enough into my filler neck?

I'm going to get it diagnosed next week. Thanks guys

Try using Sta-Bil before you next fill up. That will stabilize the gas in the tank. I'd suggest the "cleaning" dose vs the maintenance. Cheap insurance for peace of mind.

I'd also contact Chevron's consumer number to register a formal complaint.
