Antigua

I was thinking of taking mrs Bungle away for a few days for our 20th wedding anniversary, and was thinking of something a little special, rather than a European city break.

I quite fancy the idea of 7 days in Antigua or maybe Grenada.

Has anybody been and can give me some pointers/recommendations.

Thanks in advance.

I lived in Grenada for 3 1/2 years! It's an awesome island; great people, great food, awesome beaches! HOWEVER it's very quiet in comparison to Antigua.

In a nutshell, both places are very similar in terms of sun sea sand however if you want a quiet, romantic, personal time then Grenada is for you!

Depending on your budjet, I can recommend places to stay! Best of luck deciding and Congratulations on your anniversary!

Went to Antigua 2 years ago and loved it. The beaches are lovely and the all inclusive hotels great. The sailing is really easy as you have a gentle breeze on clam waters. Highly recommended

Ah Antigua! We went for our honeymoon and then just carried on going until Mr Visa said no I'd go back tomorrow. A long way for 7 nights though.

We might be able to stretch to 9/10 nights.

Depending on time of year I'd go 10 nights minimum. It's a long flight and I don't really shrug off that UK mindset and get into the Caribbean spirit for the first couple of days. We went for 14 nights and always around the end of April so we'd have our anniversary there. Nice compromise between weather and cost I always thought.

As far as hotels are concerned we went to St James Club I think three or four times and then to Coco Bay the last time. We preferred Coco Bay. Less of a big hotel feel. In fact no big hotel feel at all. I'd say both of them are mid-price for Antigua.

True. If I remember rightly our summer isn't really the best time to go. I think their off season is May to September ie more chance of rain/death. Always warm though

Was there a few years back and it is a stunning place, as said you want to be going between November to April to anywhere around this region.

Always chance of a Hurricane during what would be the normal summer months in the UK.

Sounds good. Our anniversary is 27/4 so we'd always be there into May. If it ever rained it lasted for about 5 minutes and was dry in 2. Any later and stuff starts to shut. Find out when Sailing Week is, always good to be around then. And if you're there for two Sundays you can enjoy Shirley Heights twice!

God I'm depressing myself.

You got any avios or airmiles of any sort? I can help you get into a premium cabin if you like. I know all the tricks, it's a hobby of mine.

No airmiles, but would really like to hear about upgrades.

Have been to Antigua twice, Grenada on one occasion, My choice would be Grenada again, but Antigua is a splendid destination, rent a car and explore the Island which is steeped in History. Have always travelled to the Carribean in Feb/ March. Anyways Enjoy whateverchoice you make

Unless you're my wife. She can talk herself into an upgrade like you wouldn't believe. No tricks, no hobby, just talking to people.

We stayed in the Beach Club and went with Virgin. Was very good, we got upgraded on arrival from Club accomodation to the main building. It has better accomodation and the all inclusive deal gives you a wider choice. It was a great location and the hotel restaurants were really good. Took my family there for 2 weeks and loved it.
