Should I Reset Adaptation Values? (Misfire On Startup After New Plugs and Coils)
Hey guys,
I was getting misfires prior to the winter so I changed plugs, coils and all fluids. After I changed the plugs and coils, I started getting misfire codes only at the first start-up of the day (in the mornings before I would drive to work). I never would get a misfire again for the rest of the day and they only seem to occur on cold mornings, never on warm ones. I would start the car, let it idle and I would get a misfire. I was reading somewhere that sometimes you need to reset the adaptation values and was wondering if anyone has done this? Or has anyone experienced similar issues when changing plugs and coils? I bought the BT scan tool and I have COBB so I can reset the values, I just don't know if I should. Last edited by shaginwagon13; 01-19-2013 at 09:33 PM.. |

I reset mine with the Cobb AP when I changed plugs and never had any issues. No harm in clearing adaptations, it will just help you narrow down the root cause of the issue.

The Cobb will reset all adaptations, it doesn't allow you to pick them specifically.
If you use the BT Tool, you can clear just some of them. I remember Mr 5 made a thread about it a while ago... EDIT: found it http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=386376 |

Dealing with this same issue myself. I tried resetting adaptations by unplugging the battery for a few hours before I took the car in, there was no effect on the misfires. When I took the car to the dealer a few weeks ago, they replaced the Bank 2 injectors under warranty. The engine is a lot smoother now at startup and idle, but the engine is still stumbling occasionally at cold AND warm idle.
I've seen a few threads around where many people have experienced this same issue. I'm taking it back in to the dealer tomorrow morning, we'll see what the SA says. |

Definite possibility, I'm over 45k miles so it's about that time. The cleaning has helped some cars with this issue and some cars still have stumbling after the cleaning. Unfortunately there's no way to tell until it gets done.

I'm having the same issue as of late. Just changed the the spark plugs and cleaned the intake valves. I reset the adaptations with procede tonight, I'll let you know if it helps at all.

3 cold starts done so far after the resets, idling perfect now, I'll update if the rough idle comes back.
