Hi guys new to the forum and am on the hunt for a 330d coming from a 221whp cooper s but work now requires a diesel as ill be doing 400 miles a week. Will defiantly be getting a map in the future but do any of you guys track your car? Sounds funny but I enjoy track days and a 330d seems would be pretty good on track with the amount of torque? Also people suggest manual or auto? Again being a drivers man the manual makes sense but I've read that the 330d suits the auto box perfectly.
Cheers

Hi Matt
Welcome :-)
My old E46 330d was with manual and my current E91 330d is with an auto.
And on the road the auto is great. It fits the car really nicely. But if you wan't som fun, I think the shifting is a bit slow. I have had shiftpads retrofitted and if you get used to use them a second before you need the next gear its better but still slow...
What I would like was DKG gearbox in combination with the diesel. Unfortunately that is newer been done as far as I know.... :-(

My point is for track use I think it will be a bit slow shifting, but for road-use its very nice :-)

Hi People... new 330d owner!! Want to say Hi

Quick question what does everyone pay in ROAD TAX Band? (UK owners)

My car is 2005 55 plate 330d m sport auto (e90), and on the log book emissions are 196 g/km which I as higher tax code than I expected. Cars on autotrader of this age are showing 176 g/km and lower tax code.

Has my car been incorrectly coded?

Hello!
I have a 325d, also a 3-litre with identical parts as the 330, exept the injectors...

Have been reading some of the tread and have some lines...

I bought with a manual gear because I think that the 3-series is a more sporty car than the 5-series (which I think is suitable with an automatic...) and therefor it fits better with a manual in the 3-body, in addition to that ESS-tuning limits the program for auto-cars to 500nm. (325d)
That tells me that the gearbox is the limit on those cars.
For a manual ESS deliver about 630nm, which is about as much as one can get with ECU-flashing only, and the same program used for the 330d. (Both auto and manual)
So the 325 got a weaker auto than the 330...

If the manual box is the same on all continents, there is no easily reachable limit on the box.
(I assume that they use the same manual g-box for 325 and 330)

Has anyone of you any experience with water/methanol-injection?

That would be a reasonable next step..?

You have got awesome cars, Folks!

According to ZF The autobox in the 325d is capable of 400Nm and the autobox in the 330d/335d is capable of 600Nm.
I have a PDF from ZF explaining the capabilities of the gearboxes :-)

I do track all my cars.. And E91 330d lci too.. I try BMW only in Misano World Circuit so far..
And I can say it's heavy for track. Big heavy engine.. Feel like "pregnant cow" but handle is good and very controllable. After 20min track set. My OEM brakes was comletly burn and gone! But I hade nearly slick Potenza on "17 wheels.

Now I get the "19 and new tires for track only. Try to do my best

But Misano Circuit fast speed track. I prefear more narrow mountain road with lots of turns. Like in Nurburgring with nice wievs forest etc.
when you can use the skills more than the power!!
And now I live in Italy. Here a lot of rounds in the city where you can off the traction control shift the car in the second gear and drift all aroun the city. Is the best car for this!!

Ok. Looks great.
Do you know if they have changed the bottom in the trunk?
I've heard that I need to change it in my E91 since I have a storage room that is too deep for the exhaust to fit.
Has the sound changed iwth the M3 exhaust?

Some people say that it's not possible, some people do this anyway.. I have my friends who did this before, and they told me it's possible. So I just try this any way and find the result by my self!! The only thing is killing me it's the price for exhaust is 400$ the installation work about 200€ but the diffuser is 450€ !!!

Such a nice looking car! On behalf of the USA members, let me say that many of us are very envious.

Guys why you envy? It's funny. Because most of the things come from US.. My wheels from Umnitza, exhaust from US eBay, Alpine Hid eyes also from US.
Just Chip from Germany, but you can order it's plug and play.. You can install for 20min and remove for warranty. So the only think is personal taste .. Where you can do the same.. Just if you have guys who have hands grows from the correct place

The USA ECU/DDE is different from the Euro version. We cannot get the Touring version of the 33xD. The emissions setup in the USA is different from Euro at the moment. These are the reasons we are envious. Yes, we can get all the other parts.

Egor we envy because you guys in Europe get to make many changes in your cars ECU, DPF etc etc, we on the contrary are govern by strict laws enforced by our GESTAPO/NAZi, EPA(Enviromental Protection Agency)

Well, we here in europe also have laws preventing us from doing stuff to our cars.
Here in denmark where I live, it's NOT allowed to remove the DPF. It's NOT allowed to tune more than 20% on the engine without getting it tested at the authorities. If you get the car through the authorities, they wait on the other side with a BIG bill to pay since the car has changed identity and you have to pay more in tax...

If I get busted for my cars specs as they are now, I will be fined way into hell!!! and by no means allowed to drive on......:-(
But I take my chances....
And then we have the prices on the cars which is horrible. I had to pay approx $60.000 for a 330dA, 5 years old and with 167.000km on the clock....
Here in Denmark my car, as new, with the factory fitted equipment would cost me aprox $170.000
In comparison the new 435i is estimated a basic starting price at danish kroner (dkk)860.000 which is the same as $149.300......
The horrible prices is special for Denmark though....
Add to that the price of the fuel.....almost $2/liter.....

Just to tell you that we also have our challenges here in Europe.... ;-)

Having lived in Germany for five years, I am always amused when some people in the USA who are not familiar with anything outside of the USA start complaining about fuel prices, auto prices, house prices, taxes, rules and regulations, etc. If I am having a discussion with them face-to-face, then it is easy to say "you have no idea" but when it is on a blog things are different. But one thing I am still envious about is the many options for Euro cars that we cannot get imported to the USA and especially the diesel engine options. But it seems that things are slowly changing a little bit.
