I tried my BT cable and did not have success. I didn't change my configuration though. When I plug in my BT cable to a USB slot on my laptop, Windows Device Manager shows a "Durametric Diagnostic USB" device in the list of Universal Serial Bus Controllers.

After a little poking around I've discovered that the device driver being used by the BT tool is from Future Technology Devices International, but it shows up as though it was from Durametric Software. Below is some info about this driver:

FTDI have previously provided two types of driver for Windows OS: a D2XX direct driver and a virtual COM port (VCP) driver. Previously, these drivers were mutually exclusive and could not be installed at the same time. The new Windows combined driver model (CDM) which may be installed on Windows 2000, XP or VISTA allows applications to access FTDI devices through either the D2XX DLL or a COM port without having to change driver type. However, it should be noted that an application can only communicate through one of these interfaces at a time and cannot send commands to the D2XX DLL and the associated COM port at the same time.

The CDM driver comes in two parts. The first part is the bus layer that provides D2XX style functionality and is always installed. The second part is the serial COM port layer and the CDM driver will determine whether a COM port should be exposed by reading the EEPROM of FT232R, FT245R and FT2232D devices. In the case of FT232BM, FT245BM, devices, the CDM driver will default to always installing a COM port. This behaviour can be changed and EEPROM settings ignored by changing the driver INF files as detailed in FTDI Application Note AN232B-10 Advanced Driver Options. Please note that modifying the INF files of a Microsoft WHQL certified driver will invalidate the Windows certification.

-----------------
Since the BT Tool appears to use the D2XX and not a serial COM port layer, it looks like communication takes place through DLLs. I know virtually noting about Windows drivers/DLLs and their configuration, so I have no idea if the driver could be replaced with something else or if it could be modified somehow.

The info on FTDI's website shows they support the use if EEPROM coding, which the BT Tool seems to use. I am not sure if it is worth the trouble to pursue this further.

when i opened up the FSW_PSW.man file,
sidemarker_US

BC_DIGITAL_V
was both already changed to aktiv. I tried changing nicht_aktiv but neither one will work, my sidemarker are still on and no digital reading of speedometer. However, my mirrors now can be closed with the control of my remote key, that was the only that worked.

any advice? or if there are any other codes i should try, let me know. thanks!

PS. in your DIY, you said we have to select CAS under all the modules (after we click process ecu), however, I found out in the car coding link you provided that the sidemarker is under the control unit of LMA. In this case, should we change the module to something else then? same thing with the BC_digital speedometer, it's under the control unit of combination so shouldn't the module to be changed to 'kombi'?

From what I have been reading there are three different sections CAS,FRM,NFRM , I think you have to pick encode entire car not just ecu for some of these to work..
http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...play.php?f=233

I have found lots of info about coding in these forums, there is specifically this forum for e90..

i was looking through your DIY, and noticed there is no chassis selection for the e92, only e90.

are the two chassis interchangeable?

I believe so but have not read it anywhere, would be cool to test. my reasoning behind it is that the "daten" files should be the same. most of the modules should be identical if not all. but then again it may be crazy talk. my favorite way to find out is trying it out!

In the tutorial when you have the three main options I have always selected CAS and in later options you can select "process ecu" and pick which ever module you want to code.

for those of you who are having issues I'm still trying to find some time to get a good nights sleep as soon I have some "free" time i'll make the video tutorial.

I just want to warn everyone about http://www.carparts-sale.com/. The vendor is not very responsive when you need to contact them. You might be SOL if you ever have a problem with your order or if you need to return a defective part.

I had made a purchase on 11/10. Realized that the part might not work with my car. Tried to contact them 2 times to cancel my order. The 1st time was within 24 hours but still have not received a response.

I'll update or delete this post depending on what happens next week. Just want to give you guys an early warning.

I just ordered this cable http://www.one-stop-electronics.com/...&product_id=16 and will likely have to desolder the 8th pin (getting a Nov build 335xi) so I'll let everyone know how it works out come January ;-)

Question though: since we've got these cables, is there still a need to get the BT cable or is there software that works with these that provides the same information? I haven't been able to explore NCS Expert, CarSoft, DIS, etc. since I don't have the car yet.

Well not that much info yet on the retrofit sight but looks like good source for cable and remote coding if needed as well as retrofit CIC..

Don't let the CIC retrofit price on this website fool you
This does not include the OEM activation of the Navigation...

Also on the cables be careful with the Chinese interfaces, I have had some experience with them and they do not always work.
Sometimes it's better to spend a few bucks extra and buy a good cable which will give you a stable transmission between the car and your laptop.
