Aside from being less likely to fail, are there any other benefits?

Just dooo it . As others have said, no speed to gain per say, but its worth it. Boost comes on strong and stays strong, its a solid investment at a reasonable price. Install is pretty straightforward, just a bit messy.

Does anyone know of a good DIY video for an xDrive on how to install it?

IDK how much the xi differs but we have install instructions in our classifieds for sale section and also on the manufacturers website.

I guess anything else in the way that's not on the RWD may need to be removed. IDK exactly since I've only owned N54 and only worked on a handful of N55.

It was a pretty easy install on my RWD. The question is, how hard is it to access the stock DV on xdrive models?

Installation of DV+ on 2012 335i N55

Thanks for the valuable info. I need some advise from those who installed the GFB DV+.
Going to install it in my 2012 335i N55, e92.
My understanding is that I have to completely remove the water pump to be able to access the DV. Do I need to remove also the thermostat ?
Any suggestions to make this installation easier?
Is anyone familiar with a DYI on this?

I watched my mechanic install it. It was really no big deal. He followed the instructions:

Hi, thanks.
I have these instructions. The issue with BMW is accessing the DV. Did your mechanic had to remove the water pump...is there a need to remove the thermostat as well?

Installed DV+

Quite a PITA to install, took over 5 hours, but is worth it.
For anyone interested:
1. Highly recommended to remove the fan as it will allow much easier access to the water pump back bolt.
2. There is a need to drain the coolant, remove the water pump and push aside the thermostat.
3. After steps 1,2 are done, accessing and installing the DV+ is very simple and takes minutes.

Very happy with the results!
No need to worry anymore about boost leaks of that flimsy diaphragm in the OEM valve.
This is probably one of the best upgrades one can do, especially for tuned cars who build higher pressure.

Yes, there is a huge difference in how the car just seems to stay on boil as if you can just mash on the accelerator and the car just picks right up.

I love hearing the turbo and the wooosh a little louder now too. It is a worthwhile investment.

I love in Toronto. With the colder weather during the Winter do I need to use anything specific such as lithium lube or oil?

No need to remove the thermostat. Just remove the water pump. you'll have all the room you need to reach the turbo that is right above it.

I lubed the piston with motor oil I believe, per the instructions. Or was it brake fluid? Cant remember, but that's what the instructions said to do.

If removing the water pump to change the diverter valve, consideration should be given to proactively replace the water pump and thermostat if they hadn't been already.

Sorry to revive an old thread but I got the codes yesterday that the water pump is about to die. I figured I'd do this while I'm in there anyways. Is the consensus still that installing both springs doesn't trip any lights or stored errors regardless of software? Car has Dinan stage 2 installed.
I just want to do this job once...
Thanks
