These black cars are beautiful, but I wonder, how much does the black hide? Can you see the curves and the contours of the car as well as with other lighter colors? I am guessing probably not as well, but can you make out any lines from a distance?

Very astute observation.
The dark color indeed obscures many of the car's more interesting design lines... unfortunate since it's the lines and bulges of the body panels that make the car a design standout. On a lighter colored car, you can fully appreciate the design work that went into the cars. With black, not so much. On a related note, I've been thinking of getting the M3 sides, but they're so hard to see on a black car (versus a lighter car, where they look great) that I may just stay with the factory sides.

I've recently ordered my 335i M-Sport car in black sapphire, and am now thinking if I will be able to fully appreciate its curves. I am at least hoping that on a sunny day it will be more obvious. Also since its black sapphire and not jet black, maybe it will stand out a little more. Or at least I can enjoy the curves of my car from up close.

Thanks, I hope you are right. I can't wait.
I wonder how much of the blue is visible on the black sapphire in the sun. That would probably be pretty cool. I tested mine on a cloudy day... |

Rubin Black with light interior
I have this car since August 2008.
Here are some impressions wit summer rims: And with winter rims: The car is a 325dA with M-package, nearly fully equipped. After nearly two years I must admit I do not feel sad to have changed from 525i E60 to that one - the E92 is more fun for the driver Best regards Jerzy |

Pretty sure it's BSM. But not 100%.

The 325dA in above pics is neither Jet Black nor Sapphire Black - the colour is called here in Germany "Rubin Black Metallic", oon the UK page it is called "Ruby Black". In Germany it is an Individual painting.

Can someone post a nice sunlit picture of BSM and JB side by side to see a good comparison? I tried googling it, but don't come up with nice visible difference results.
Is Black Sapphire bluish or grayish or something else? Thanks. |

BSM has some blue/indigo flake in the metallic. It is a touch lighter than jet black. The brighter the light/sun the more you can see the difference. Photo from detailedimage.com website (awesome source for detiling supplies and wisdom)
