Car Insurance more than 1 car

If I were to say buy a 2nd car do I get stung for insurance as I have no ncb?

I cannot drive both at once? So if do 8k per year I will still only do 8k.

Do I need to use a multicar policy?

Yes u will have zero NCB on the second car

The way around this is to insure in ur partner's name for example, use their NCB to get a lower premium but declare that u'd be the main driver on the policy. This isn't fronting as everything is declared upfront

Please go with companies such as Directline, Churchill etc who offer multicar discount

I too went with Admiral
Very cheap for the first year (or part of the year for some of the cars) -including 2 young drivers, although both had NCD's. Five cars in total.
Second year was marginal - I MAY have been able to get the same insurance cheaper, but not much. Stayed with Admiral.
Third year was horrendously expensive.
I'm now with 4 different companies for 5 cars. Or to be really correct, 6 companies for 7 vehicles. Bugger.
NCB's earned with Admiral with all the named drivers have been accepted by other companies as wife/son/daughter effectively had insurance in their names - just that I was paying it all (nothing new there then!)

Downside is that now I have a big insurance bill for all the cars at the same time. Thankfully not Christmas!!

This is our second year with them happy enough with the prices. Son was 550 odds my 330 was something like 209 her focus was like 230 something and our runabout corsa was 190 or so. Somewhere round those prices.

Many insurers will match your primary cars' NCB if you insure another car with them.

I used to have Admiral multi-car but the renewal premium they asked for this year was a joke. I have 9 years NCB on one car, 2 years on another and 1 on another car.

I switched to Esure and they matched the nine years bonus from Car 1 to both car 2 and car 3 (which are now on 3 separate policies). So although I have earned some NCB on the other cars, they are all basically worthless now. Provided I don't make a claim in the next year, I will have 3 x 10 year NCBs to use. Saved me about 500 all in all. (And that was after Admiral reduced their renewal cost from 1,800 to 1,300 - now paying about 800 combined)

It wasn't just esure that offered that, a few others did too.

That said - NCB doesn't have the value it used to. So many companies are playing fast and loose with bonus matching now. History, location and age have much more effect.

Our renewal this year with admiral was expensive so she put it through as a new quote or something and it worked out fine.
