07 335xi fire behind glove box

My ac stopped working earlier last week. Thursday my car caught fire in the parking lot while I was inside working. Looks like it started behind the glove box where the blower motor and fuse box is.

Insurance company is calling it a total loss.

I had the battery cable recall done about a year ago. No idea how this happened.

any one got a DIY on how to replace the connector to the blower motor? I'm pretty sure my indy mech was replacing those parts today on an e93 335i because it sparked and caused a small fire that melted the connection.

He said the customer complained that his fan quit blowing no matter which speed it was set to. When he looked up under the dash he saw that the wire harness connection to the blower motor had been fried by a small fire or short out. Luckily in this case, all they did was replace or re-splice (not sure really) a new connector to the harness going to the blower motor.

OP I'm sorry for your car. But thankfully you were not parked in a garage at home asleep and no one was hurt!

e46s have been having issues with spontaneously combusting also. Many of which started behind the glove box....

Then I would report it to NHTSA as well. Cars can't be catching on fire!

Thanks! Those pictures are quite shocking. I have the same car and a 4 year old in the back. Scary.

Did it need or have the battery cable recall done?
