Handbrake lights stays on!

Hi guys, new to the forum, need help with my e90

bought the car like this but the handbrake light always stays on, regardless of whether it is up or down, how can i know what the problem is? some people have told me it could be the cable but how can i check that?

U probably need new brake pads. That light will also turn on when the brake pad sensor is tripped.

could also be a bad switch on the brake handle. There is typically a sensor that when the brake is released the switch is then released. Perhaps yours is somehow not functioning right.

This.

OP go through the CBS menu system and see what the car says about remaining pad life. Are you getting a red-car-on-lift symbol when you start the car? If so, then one of the axles (or both) need new brakes.

No i do not get the lifted car symbol which some people have talked about, is it simply the handbrake light staying on, am changing discs pads and sensors so will let you all know how it goes

Did anyone open your center console lately... May have bend the parking brake connector.
It is very easy to bend.
