2007 e91 lots of oil in intake

Fixing a few oil leaks on 142K engine, I took off the intake and had a bit of oil drain out from the bottom 2 connectors that go up to the back of the valve cover. Is there any way to test if the oil separator is working. From what I've read it is built into the valve cover, I can only think it failed by the amount of oil that drained out of the intake.

It's pretty normal for there to be a bit of oil in the intake. Also, isn't '07 still mounted to the manifold? Or was that '06 only?

Ok to answer my own post, and from what I've read that the system is built into the valve cover and NON-Serviceable. Not sure why they did this, looks like the section has 3 clip-on tabs, but the unit is glued in also. So figuring I needed a new valve cover anyway I decided to cut it open. I found the diaphragm inside is torn all the way around allowing oil to go directly to the intake
causing all kinds of fun problems! So new valve cover is on its way.

Must have been 06, my 07 it is on the valve cover. I probably drained about a 1/2 cup of oil out of the intake when I took it off! Not to mention a few big clouds of smoke every once and a while.

Thank you, I really appreciate that. I guess the plus side is that out valve cover isn't that expensive, but it's still stupid that it is a single non serviceable part now.

I wonder if it is possible to retrofit the older style with the external oil separator. Makes me a little sad I tossed mine now with the manifold swap.
