135i

Hey, if i were to buy the 135i would i still be able to talk in here? lol ive just been reading arround here and yall dont take well to people that drive other vehicals... (like that guy that drives that jag haha) i just need to start some investments and i dont think its right for me to buy an m3 just yet... but soon. i just think it would be easier to pay off a 1 series with no payments then within a year trade it in and get the m3. what do u all think? besides i think that 1 seriers may have more potential than the m3. if ur going to track it that is....

let me know what yall think. ur opinion means alot to me in this decision since ur the only peeps i know that own bmw's.

IMHO, the 135i is a good alternative to the M3. TG's Clarkson gave it a rare 5 star rating in his column on a local motor review.

As long as you're talking about the M3 here, otherwise:

Why does everyone think the 1-series will be a killer track car? Some people think it will be more than an M3.
I just don't get it. It isn't the lightweight track demon everyone was expecting. Do people realize that?

Isn't it like 100kg lighter than the M3? It looks like it should be much lighter than that.

135i is a great car but as stated its not the track demon that people tend to think it is.

It is neither light nor small....

Everything I've read so far has been very positive on the 135i. The discussion - and this is not for this thread / forum but for 1addicts etc - is 135i vs 335i. 3er for looks but ...

Well, as said above this is the M3 specific part of Bimmerpost. Obviously ownership of the car isn't required to talk about it. (Half of us here don't have e9X M3's yet.) But if your looking for a 1-series following then 1addicts.com is the place you should look. And the General BMW forums are here for all your random BMW info. and needs.

However, this forum in specific, and most of the people that post here, is devoted to the topic of the e9X M3.

The car is light for todays standards of cars. The new m3 is heavier and many cars in that range are just as heavy if not heavier. No the car is no lotus, but it comes with sick brakes and is not really heavy for today's cars. Throw some lsd and some suspension, maybe a tune and you have one heck of a track car.

There are plenty of other track cars I would rather get. But I do think its competitive for what it is, especially if you consider the ED price.

The 135i needs to lose a hell of a lot of weight before it's a "killer track car". It has the foundations, it's just being held back by all that heft. That's what the Tii is going to be, I guarantee it. I think BMW did this on purpose.

From what I hear, the thing understeers like it's awd or something. A stiffer rear suspension might cure that. Regardless, the thing still needs a lot of work before it can be considered a serious track car.

Regardless, I'm sure you're welcome to talk here even if you get a 1er. There's just some tight wads here that fret if you don't buy the "ultimate" car. *sighs*

I dont see how it has to lose alot of heft when you have cars like the newer m3 or the last generation m3 that are heavier, that make good track cars. I would say lsd and stiffer suspension would make that car an awesome track car.

A standard M3 isn't a killer track car. The CSL, from what I hear, is the only car that can track well straight from the factory.

The difference between a killer track car and a decent track car is pretty big imo. It'd be wiser to get a more economical DD and then spend the other bit of cash on a dedicated real hardcore track car if your intention is to go to the track a lot. Judging that you listed tracking as a high priority to buy the 1 series, I suggest the latter approach.
