Why use a cradle?

When I get into my E46 with my phone it automatically synchs with the car.

Can I ask a dumb question? Why use an iPhone cradle? Does it give you anything that the Bluetooth interface does not?

I'm ordering a new E90 soon, and want an iPhone to go with it.

Thanks

It takes way too long to have to disconnect and connect your phone all the time...

It charges your phone and connects it to the external antenna.

The external antenna is the only real reason.

FYSA - according to the dealer I contacted you need all of the following parts to get a complete installation:

Part Number/Description List
84 10 9 182 792 :ADAPTER SNAP IN 140.00
84 21 6 946 075 :EJECT BOX 138.75
51 16 7 118 054 :COVER, TELEPHONE 25.65

$330 total list price - not sure its worth that much, so I'll wait. I look forward to hearing from someone who takes the plunge.

That doesn't sound right. 330bucks + just to gain antenna power ? Someone needs to check into this.

I just got mine today for my 330, no it will not snap in place with clear case protector, I dont know what I was thinking but I was told I would be able to use the steering wheel funtions for the phone, musics tracks etc... the real answer is NO you can not!

The phone still is paired with your bluetooth connection, dont get me wrong it looks good in the center arm rest no excess movement etc.. but honestly its just A high price Iphone charger, If you have to buy all the pieces like I did eject box, inner shrod for counsol and the adapter the total cost $250+ shipping, from Circle BMW also they provide instructions via email the install is very simple if pre-wired which all 2006 models on should be. A extra booklet comes with the apapter with pairing instructions for the phone, I already paired the phone using I drive before attempting this project address book works with voice dial with no issues so far so, after doing some more research it is rumored that a snap in with usb will be released, I wont be so quick to jump,I think you still will have to buy the ipod interface $ 400+

I keep my iPod in the cubby in front of the center armrest. An iPhone would fit equally well. It's easier to get at than being in the armrest if you want to change songs too. Of course this wont' work if you have iDive.

how does this fit in the glove box if you have 6FL?

And where is the antenna connection?

Once this is installed, is it still possible to plug a cable in the headphone jack to go to the aux jack? I use my iPhone as my iPod, so if I cant utilize the aux out, this is worthless. Still looks awesome though...

I will include pictures of the install as soon as I find my memory stick.
But the the antenna hook up is located under the center console.
But there is no need to remove the center console, the wiring can be located by un snaping the emergency brake lever leather boot. you will see two connectors one that is black and square shape six pin adapter, the other is a one pin type adapter or your typical anntenna plug.

Cars produce on -03-05 to 04-05 have (3) additional connectors in the trunk located on the drivers side only (2) need to be connected, you must remove the left side trunk carpet.
Their will be a velvet type cable wrap that will have the cords you need to connect to each other however, my car was produced 10/05 and did not have the connectors in the trunk, the only cable is what I think is the connection for a cd changer?

No!!! which is another bummer you will not be able to access the headphone jack for Aux unless you mod the snap in adapter and be creative with it.

Honestly its a $250 car charger for the Iphone but does it in style, I havent noticed any increase in signal strength. If you have Idrive the BT in it worked excellent b4 the mod.

If you are a person who like to have things in its proper place then go for it.
If not I would hold off for a little while to see what comes out next. As for me I really considered returning it b4 the install but I decided to keep it because it was a option I did not have and it may add to the resale value to the car "maybe." I will be adding the Ipod adpater to the Glove box though fyi just put the phone on the side the flashlight or get the glove box Ipod glove box organizer, use BT to answer, make and end calls and steering wheel functions for the rest, ( iphone does work with the Ipod adpater tried it in my brothernlaws 330)

hope this helps

-J
