I have driven now across france, belgium, netherland, germany, austria and the speed limits are higher in all of them. Road quality is also better. And far fewer speed cameras. Says it all where road tax money goes

This is bullshit.
My Dad went 56mph on a 40mph limit on the M1 close to midnight and got a ticket. Can you believe that, it was empty at that time. So next time you see a fucking random 40 limit out of nowhere be prepared to slow down for no bloody reason!!!! |

Even this morning the M25 was empty (Fridays always are) and they have 40 signs up randomly. And It's the coincidence of the century that the huge drop in speed limit always starts on a gantry with a camera So everyone slams on their brakes, the one thing you are told not to do ever when driving unless there is an emergency. Then at peak times, what's the f'ing point of them anyway. No one can go faster than 20mph! |

Watch out for that 20 mph zone near the school, and the 5 mph limit in the supermarket car park!

I thought they were only allowed cash machines sorry speed cameras in accident black spots??? Also how come it's ok for the traffic police to drive like lunatics on our roads? I understand if they are chasing someone or on route to an emergency but I've lost count of the times they have blasted by me well in to 3 figures with no lights or sirens 😡 one rule for us and one for them

Surely if its an emergency/urgent call they should put their lights on? One day they will be recorded by my dash cam. It will probably not do anything re disciplining them, but it will at least feel good walking into the station with that complaint and evidence. Too many marked X5's in Northampton think they own the road. |

A friend I know got a ticket for doing 102mph on the M25 J5 at 2am, what is he expecting? No previous speeding convictions.

I had to pick up the trouble and strife on Thursday from Heathrow. The M25 had a few gantrys show 40. Let me tell you, nobody slowed to 40. I couldn't myself for fear of the car behind me ploughing into me. Luckily didn't see any flashes for any of the numerous cars in front.
I'd say most were doing 60 under the sign which is probably 6 pts if one flashed. Utter BS as there was nothing going on. Probably emptied the full role of film on the first x cars through. I'm still surprised how many cars go under all gatso armed gantrys at certain speeds. There were a few where my detector was telling me they were active while no reduced limit was enforced and ppl at close to 100 didn't get flashed. Also some active ones on 60 didn't flash at ppl doing 70+. I'm mystified as to when these things may go off. |

They don't have to have their lights/sirens going when answering a call, it's down to the individual officers judgement and discretion around the particular situation they are in whether they 'go silent' or not. |

You're probably right though that they don't need sirens. But im sure these bent ones in Northampton jump lights for fun. No harm in handing a few videos in! |

There is no requirement to use the emergency equipment when making use of the police exemptions. Yes it sucks to get caught speeding, but those cameras aren't down to the Police. With the smart motorways, it's very important to have these cameras in place, with the variable limits. Imagine breaking down, or having an accident in the live lane, with traffic approaching at 70mph+ I'd imagine that there was a variable limit set when you were flashed, as they are usually set higher than that for 70mph. It would also depend on what the speed limit of the van was, that you were driving (no more than 7.5 tonnes is 60mph for a straight forward van) although my knowledge on the specific area is a little rusty |
