Difference between 335 steptronic trans & 535 Standard (nonsport) steptronic trans??

Guys, I am sorry for all the 535 questions but this forum seems to have a lot of members with tons of knowledge so please bare with me

I see lots of guys here running the various brands of software tuning on 335 with 6MT and Steptronic autos with great success. I am wondering if the standard steptronic avaiable in 535 will also have the same success with the software upgrades.

As a follow up question...With the 535 there is Steptronic and there is Sport Automatic with paddle shifters...can anyone tell me the difference between those as well?

Thanks!!!

The 535 will have the same success. The difference between the 535 non sport w/ the steptronic and 535 sport w/ the steptronic is the paddle shifters. The actual transmission is the same....

kyle, the 335 and 535 use the same transmission?

Sport Automatic really only adds the paddle shifters?

I thought the software in the sport also made for more agressive shifts? Guess that really makes no difference since I can just switch over to steptronic mode and shift myself.

Thanks again!

I believe they are the exact same. You can go on the BMW website and find out what the sport package includes. I am pretty sure the transmission is the exact same, and the only difference is the addition of paddle shifters. Hope this helps....

After doing a bit more research and with help from other members from this and other sites even a sales rep from a local dealer....it appears that Steptronic 535i and Sport Auto 535i BOTH use the same transmission: 6HP19ZTU (this is the same transmission that is in 335i also)

The Sport Auto option only adds the paddles and the software to go with it. The transmission itself is the same.
