Coilover- are the shocks changable?

I know an coilover is an combined shock and springs? I plan on keeping the bmw for an long time and am wondering if the shocks wear out on the CO, do I need to get complete new CO or can I change out only the shock?

Thanks, Newbie here! trying to go CO over shock/springs.

That is a good question. It depends on which manufacture you go with.

KW offers lifetime warranty so if anything happens, they will be re-valved for free.

the revalving is if the KWs have an manufactor defect. normal wear and tear on the CO not covered right? i am wondering what happens if the shock just wears out, time for new CO or can I just swap out the shock portion. thanks

Garage List
If you are an original owner on H&R coilovers..they have in the past replaced individual shocks that went bad. If you are a second owner of the coilovers..you are hosed.

Most people just replace the coilovers set entirely after X miles...since the overall wear and tear affects all shocks. While it is possible...I wouldnt just change out new shocks on a set of coilovers. Springs do wear out as well.

If there is a manufacture defect or if it wears out then they will re-valve it.

The shocks can be replaced if decided but is unnecessary.

Having the shocks re-valved is the same as replacing the shocks.

If the springs are not manufactured properly then the springs should not wear.

Bilstein offers lifetime warranty on their struts/shocks. And if you want to revalve them, it is only $65.00 each.
