Low Temp OEM Oil Thermostat Replacement

Hey all,

I just found from another member a company which makes a low temp oil thermostat for the N54/N55. Sounds like this one keeps oil temps around 220.

Stock one already opens at around 220-230F. So this does very little. I know that my car rarely goes above 230 while driving on streets, after all the cooling upgrade I did this year.

Would be nice to have one that opens at 180F instead.

I just emailed the manufacturer of these and here is his response:

The car will still warm up like normal. Thermostat will start to open sooner and is fully open by 194-200f (roughly 30* lower than stock). Actual operating temp will vary with ambient temp, driving conditions, and oil cooler. I generally see customers that normally operate at 245-250 drop to the 210 range.

It is sitting on my bench. I haven't had a chance to install it yet (freakin busy this summer). I plan to install on Saturday afternoon or Sunday. Looks like a very simple install. The product itself is very high quality CNC machined though.

Just installed it. Fits like a glove. Can't go for a test drive tonight but will report back on results tomorrow.

It works! Warmup was exactly the same as with the OEM thermostat. Oil temperature hovered between 210 and 230 during driving with ambient temperature at around 85F. The higher temps were only seen while sitting still in traffic and while cruising it was pretty steady at 210.

This would be a great compliment to a higher capacity oil cooling system as well as it would allow it to reject more heat sooner rather than relying on the OEM T-stat's higher opening point.

About to do this myself...having difficulty finding the torque spec for for the thermostat cover. For the housing itself it is 22 N-m (According to the Bentley Manual).

Wanted to bump this thread to chime in on this thermostat.

It is awesome! I previously had issues with oil temp regularly going over 255 on spirited runs. With the AD thermostat the car rarely goes over 250. Warm up is slightly slower and car likes to sit around 230. Car is ready for autocross now.

I had major concerns about oil temperature before. Now I have zero issues!
