K&N Drop in Filter

i just replaced my stock filter with the K&N drop in but didn't remove the charcoal filter. will just replacing the filter (kept charcoal inplace) give even the slightest difference that a person driving can notice? i read about removing the charcoal filter thread but don't know if its good for the engine or not cause i think they placed it there for a reason, but if removing the charcoal will make a even GREATER difference then maybe will think about it.

i know many of you will say Intake FTW but i think i will do the drop in first and see how it goes.

anyone that has either replaced the stock filter and/or removing the charcoal filter too please feed me with some input. thanks

(everything here is about stock intake)

you will mentally think is louder and faster for the first week since you will be more focused on trying to hear for the change in sound of intake.. but infact it will do nothing.

Charcoal filter - air intake for passengers

K&N - air intake for engine

Edit: I did some reading. I found the filter on the airbox. BMW sure goes all

You most likely won't feel anything. The only way you might see a SLIGHT difference is maybe gas mileage?

Shouldn't you be asking yourself that question as to whether you notice a perf. difference?

You changed the filter in your own car. So how does it feel? No difference?

I removed the charcoal filter, but didn't replace the original air filter.
I can tell you I don't regret removing it as the difference is quite noticeable.
You will find that engine runs smoother than before at rpm < 2k.
I just did this last weekend, so I'll have to monitor the MPG for a bit, but I need to adjust my driving cause the engine reaches above 3k rpm faster, and I often forgot to up shift until it reaches 4k rpm (I'm not a high rpm driver).

Sorry for the newbie question, but what is a charcoal filter?
Dont we just replace the oem drop filter with the stock filter?
The 2 mins procedure?

The confusion is because there are two charcoal filters. One charcoal filter for the cabin, this is replaceable, which is separte from the engine air filter. The second is behind the replaceable engine air filter in the factory intake box, this filter I believe was intended to be permanent. However, people have removed this charcoal engine air filter. Check DIY for details. This filter appears quite restrictive. I have removed it, but ended up going with a Simota in the end.

I removed my charcoal filter and still have my stock air filter.
There is a noticable difference in the way the car breathes but I dont know if a can say its faster.
BTW I'm getting 21mpg-mostly city driving (and pretty spirited)

Does the 335 have a charcoal filter? I just opened the air box, and only a drop in filter. I didnt see a charcoal sheet anywhere.

Is the 21 mpg before the charcoal filter removal or after?
