I should also have mentioned that the only way to judge the deal is to know how much you are paying for the car, which you don't mention, including dealer profit, any fees, MF, MF markup, bankfee (bankfee markup), annual mileage, etc.

the lease is for 24 months at 10,000 miles. I havent put the money down yet but it seems all the dealerships i have haggled with in (NY,NJ) Manhattan BMW, DiFEO, PArk AVE, JMK,Prestige, Wide world of cars, none of them can match that price. I Dont want to put any money down but if i don't then all the payments will be much higher than 525

Check out this link from Brecht BMW...

http://www.brechtbmw.com/specials_full.php?t=1

See how this car compares 'dollar wise' to yours.. .but it is only $70 more a month... and $1,000 down...

I'd say you aren't doing to bad, but would push your down to closer to $3,000 (assuming that includes tax, title etc... )

Good Luck,
Dave

Hey guys I pick up my car next week and I was planning on leasing with 3900 total drive off including 2700 down. I dont understand why you say it is so bad to put money down? Ive always purchased cars with no money down but nothing ever this expensive. This is my first lease and I want to lower my payment so that is why im putting money down. My payment now is going to be 647 but with nothing down it goes up to 720.

So? It´s not magic money.

The lower payment is illusory at best. At worst, you might never recoup it.

See my comment above this one. I´ll repeat: it´s not magic money. Your lower payment is an illusion. What difference does it make.

People seem to make the mistake of purchasing cars based on a monthly payment, ignoring other factors.

It´s the wrong way of going about it.

Again, a lease is a method of finance but it´s different than a loan. Putting money down on a loan is fine. Putting money down on a lease (and this is not the same thing as MSDs) is only creating an illusion of a lower payment so as to make the purchaser believe he can afford what he otherwise cannot.

So it's going to cost $2,700 down to lower your payments $73/mo? If it's for 24 months, then your payments are reduced by $1,752 over the life of the lease. If for 36 months, then payments are reduced by $2,628 over the life of the lease. Either way you're losing money with the down payment. That doesn't even factor in what the money would do for you in a MM account at 4-5% interest right now.

FWIW, leased 07 335i with sticker of $46,675 for $615/mo (w/o tax) and $0 down.

How about pulling the acquisition fee ($625) out of the lease and paying for it up front instead? Saves about $20-25/month on the payment for a 36 month lease. Or is this essentially the same as putting in a downpayment of the same amount?

I would (and have) paid aquisition fee and registration up front, doesn't make sense to me to finance the fees. If you run the math, it seems that $625 up front is saving you $720-$900 (from your estimate x 36) over the life of the lease. So again it would seem to make sense to pay it up front.

dont put more than 1500-2k down, even if it raises your payment. you can invest that money or put it in a bank. why? coz if you total the car or want to get rid of it later that money is gone
