Anyone had success with a Motorola Q9h?

I recently got a Motorola Q9h (on Telstra NextG) and (not) to my surprise it doesn't play nice with the iDrive Bluetooth set up. Naturally the third party software that fixes the bluetooth stack doesn't work on this phone either because Motorola have a proprietary one.

The problem is that it pairs, and uploads the phonebook etc. But when a call is placed or received the audio is not routed to the car's speakers. I have tried BMW and getting software updates etc, but to no avail...

So, I was wondering if anyone in Oz had the same phone, and had managed to get it to work with their iDrive.

I have given up and bought a BlueAnt supertooth to get me through until the iPhone arrives in Oz - which I believe does work well with BMW's iDrive.

In the meantime, it really gets to me that Bluetooth is such a loose standard, and many phones don't work correctly with the BMW... in the process of looking for a good Windows Mobile phone for work, I have tried a great many, and none of them work as reliably as my old Nokia does, which is a great shame.

Anyway, enough ranting, would like to hear the thoughts and experiences of others.

I purchased a new phone last week and decided to play it safe as I really wanted one tat interfaced with the car. I ended up getting a Motorola K1. It's not the newest model out there but it works perfectly with the car and I'm happy with that. (not a bad looking phone either !!)

hmmm, think I am just going to have to wait for the iPhone to arrive here in Oz...

Spoke to a Motorola Rep who said the phone was in testing with BMW... don't really know where that will get me, she didn't know how long it would take to complete, and what the outcome would mean for my car and phone.

I have a Samsung Blackjack that has given me no end of trouble connecting with my non-iDrive car. But I finally found an OS version that so far (fingers crossed) works including displaying my address book.
It is a customised version of WM6 for anyone who is interested and can be found at:

I had a BlackJack between having the iMate JasJam and the Moto Q9h, and tossed it because I couldn't get the phone book up on the iDrive, and it would intermittently cut out the audio.

I searched in vain for such a website, thanks for this.

i have never had any luck with any Windows phones and i think it is the software platform that is the problem because the Nokias (Simbian) and blackcherries and iphones don't have any problems.

i threw out my Palm Treo 750 because it would drop out of my car's speakers in the middle of a call almost all the time. and it wouldn't load any of my contacts either.

now that i have a Nokia E51 it works brilliantly.

Yes, all my Nokias have worked flawlessly, and I didn't even bother with a Palm after reading all the flaming on the internet that their current range gets.

The funny thing is that the iDrive system is Windows based, so it would be otherwise logical to assume that a Windows Mobile device would be most successful in communicating, but then again, what would I know

Windows by its self is bad lol, but when you try pairing it to another windows based device, it all falls appart

My PDA is forever having issues with my car, but my regular mobile has no problems, wtf

Yes, I am constantly amazed how Windows devices seem to hate each other.

I use both Mac OS X Leopard and Windows XP and Vista, and I know which I feel more relaxed using...
