Genuine Wool Mitt or Microfiber Mitt?

Just wanted to know because I see so many differing opinions about this topic. I want to make sure I put the right mitt to my paint the very first time.

I have both, go with the wool mitt for your finish. I use the MF mitt for the family beaters and wheels.

That's why it's not in the title of the thread.

NO MF for the wash mitt. The nap is not plush and the fibers grab and hold. The mit will stay dirty and keep the dirt on the surface of the mit. Bad news!

MF mitt = wiping down interior
Sheep Skin Mitt x 2 = Exterior wash
Chenille covered sponge = Tires and Wheels

I usually use a Chenille, but with the E90 I am using a Mircofiber mitt.

Only been washed twice though, once with Chenille and another with MF mitt. It sounds as though I need to ditch the MF mitt.

BTW, I thought the sheepskin wool was bad news?

Isn't this the same thing? Sheep = lamb? I guess if you want to be technical, a lamb is a young sheep.

lol yes ok i know that. What I meant was what difference is it going to make on the car. Will the lambs wool mit be softer? Its just that I have seen some mits called sheep wool mits and others lamb wool mits.

well, I'll ditch mine.

This is from Autopia:

The recent popularity of microfiber has created a large number of microfiber products, including microfiber wash mitts. In my own testing I have concluded that many of the microfiber wash mitts are not paint safe. If the fibers have hooked or split ends, designed for dry cleaning and dusting, the cloth will not be free-rinsing. This means that the cloth will retain dirt until it is heavily agitated in a washing machine. The retained dirt particles may scratch your paint.

So if all posters are for sheepskin, then why are we neck and neck for mitt preference? I've got some MF mitts that I'm about to return because of this topic.

I only use the MF mitts for interior and glass. Sheepskin for exterior. MF is not plush enough to move dirt away from its surface.

Good question, I hear the Viking mitts are good. I've decided I'm going to just get the ones from Target and see how they hold up. Haven't really seen any name brand ones in the stores. I mean, they have the turtle wax branded ones, but they feel cheap.

If you must use a mitt, use wool.
But forget the mitts - they all trap dirt - get a boar's hair brush.

I got the boar's hair brush

After a few uses it doesent seem soft at all
I got the hood repainted because of a HUGE rock chip and when i washed it, I look closely and found a TON of very fine streight lines in the paint
Is there a special way of taking care of the brush?
Thanks,
