What do you like best about BMW marketing? (poll)

I have to admit, I find their marketing is excellent. The cars speak for themselves when driven, but there is so much behind the badge that we carry with us, consciously or otherwise. I'm curious what members enjoy the most about what BMW does that "works" for you.

The slogan "The Ultimate Driving Machine" only adds to and enhances the brands credibility as being a manufacture of high performance/no compromise driving machines - because it's so true. Very few makes can make slogans that are true to their character, most are flimsy and often varying attempts to create some kind of buzz for their cars. And more often than not, they fail. "The Ultimate Driving Machine" isn't so much a marketing tool as it is a way of thinking(their philosiphy) towards their products - and that never goes unnoticed by anyone behing the wheel of a BMW. To add, BMW has really carved out it's own niche, first off by being an independent manufacture(yes they own Mini and RR, but those are completely seperate and dedicated brands), they also have never been a follower of any design trend, BMW is always about constantly defying convention.

I just love BMW. Whenever I see a BMW on the road (new or old), I always admire it. When I see a commercial on tv, i actually watch it. BMW IS the Ultimate Driving Machine!

To be honest, I have never really been impressed by BMW's advertisements. It's truly a situation of a car that sells itself, and the ads seem to only perpetuate the stereotypical arrogant persona that BMW carries. I look at the ads because they make great cars, but I highly doubt a lesser car company would be able to increase thier sales by using "BMW type" advertisements.

Despite these criticisms, I did like that BMW X5 commercial with the "flying angels" at each wheel. It was a welcome change from the car driving through a few curves and make reference to "the ultimate driving machine" so typical of BMW ads.

And as far as multicultural brochures go, I have looked though brochures for 3, 5 and M series cars and I typically see mostly caucasians and an occasional asian person.

The people complaining about race; what do you expect? If 75%+ of their customers are white, they're going to represent that in their advertising.

No offense, but white people are in EVERY automakers brochure, no other ehtnicities are represented, except for Volvo brochures. Doesn't really matter anyway, doesn't make them biased or prejudice(CNoteMD).

Personally, I think I should be in every BMW ad, AT LEAST in the background somewhere in a corner or something.

I could swear my brochure, toward the back (I think the BMW financial page) somehow had a family with an asian mom, black dad, and white kid............

I just think it's funny when they try a bit too hard to be multicultural

LOL that's hilarious. The ironic thing about that is: I see Asians driving most of the expensive cars out there.

But as E90-4LIFE's mentioned, pretty much all manufacturers have white people in there. EVEN JAPANESE AUTOMAKERS. I guess if you're gonna sell cars in the US you might as well have white folks in your brochures.

Another point- asians already know what they want and how much they wanna pay for it. We already did our HW at home. White people dont know anything so they have to ask for brochures. Hence the brochures are full of white people.

I understand that advertisements for most products will be geared to the majority audience. I was simply making reference to a post earlier in this thread :

"I love the multicultural familes in the brochures!!!"

But if you really want to get into the marketing of European automobiles, I would have to acknowledge that Mercedes seems to go more out of thier way to include other ethnicities in thier brochures (not that it really matters).

But as I said before, this car sells itself and in general I don't let advertisements dictate what I should purchase. I got this car for its own merits.

It's most of everyone that aspires to drive an MB. What we choose to acknowledge is up to us, but I see tons of Asians, Blacks, Whites, and a host of other ethnicities driving MB's, all the time, all brand new. I've seen tons of different people rolling around in BM's too, of all ethnicities. A brochure is nothing more than a picture guide of a car that gives you all the info you need in making your purchasing decisions, whatever car you may be looking at. When I look in a brochure I pay attention more so to the cars(and all things pertaining to the car) than the people pictured in the brochure.

What fascinated me when I got together with three other BMW owners from Montreal, is that we are all from different cultures, and yet our ages, educations, and family circumstances (with one exception) were quite similar.

What that tells me is that BMW 's marketing research is very well done, in that the attraction to the marque transcends racial and cultural boundaries.

Well said, well said.

However large our membership may be, I'm very sure(especially from what I've seen) that this is only a small fraction of actual E90 owners if what I've seen is anything to go by. Granted not everyone posts a pic of themselves AND their car. I've only seen probably two African American members on this forum, neither of which lives in my general area, and I've seen quite a few African Americans behind the wheel of E90's. That's not of any significance other than that there's a lot more than what we see here and there compared to what's actually out there.

I mean, look at this forum, there is quite a mix of cultures and countries, and yet most of us get along all the time!
