why are alot of people having wastegate problems???

whats some symptoms I can look for to detirmen if I have a failed wastegate ??

Well so far theres a lot less reports vs fuel pump issues, but yea they seem to be growing in the number of cases. Probably both because there's more cars on the road and because more miles are accumulating on the cars already on the road.

ticking, tapping noise from the wastegates opening and closing?
An immediate drop in boost while accelerating?

I'd like to know the exact wastegate failures.

I had issues while on the track last weekend...and I happen to have the shop foreman of my BMW dealership in the car with me at the time..I thought my diverter valves were sticking..and he seem to think it might be the wastegate rod sticking instead. It only happened maybe 4-5 times over the course of 2 track days..but it still did bug me when it happened. Symptoms of mine were no spool up for about 1-2 seconds..or a delay in spool up when shifting from 3rd to 4th on the main straight at Laguna Seca...going about 100 mph.

Tapping noises could be your valves or camshaft..have you checked your oil levels lately...if you hear that noise on cold start up..that could be it...or at least that was it in older cars that I have owned.

the waste gate failure has a loud ticking sound when revving down in neutral from 3k. AU335 has a video up of how his sounds and how other guys have described the sound.

im sure it would reproduce the same flapping sound,( in which when it flaps u hear the ticking sound) while deaccelarating in gear. but the easiest way i think to hear it is to open ur door lena over and rev ur engine up. while the revs are coming down if u dont here this ,( go to the end of the video to the rev part)

wow, I heard that video. I certainly do not have that sound. That car sounded ill. Thanks for the video O-cha. We have to stick together because I hate to see these SA's take advantage of people.

My car was completely stock before i had any type of work done to my car. Mine made the same ticking noise a good while ago even stock. I just thought it was normal b/c it was stock and everything. But then i go and take a damn 2nd cat off and the dealership goes crazy and claims its b/c of that modification to the exhaust sytem

There is even a SB for this issue released by BMWNA

S.1. B11 13 07 I even told the SA about it and he said he didnt know anything about it and could not respond to it.
