lol i've tonnes of rock chips all over the front of my car...chips on the hood, on the bumper, on the fender...plus all the scratches, i know how painful it is to see the 1st rock chip =(
i suggest u buy the touch up paint from ur local bmw dealer, they should have it..or if u want u can buy it from advanced auto parts, just ask one of the guys..leavin rock chips untreated is not good imho, it may corrode the hood frame in ur case...thats what i think, i dunno much bout car so yeah
or get a repaint juz like govtec but after u do get lots of rock chip
sorry again for ur rock chip, my suggestion: dont drive behind suvs or trucks and dont speed...hopefully it will lessen ur chance of gettin rock chips!
have a good weekend

I got few chips on my front bumper but they aren't noticable. The X5 has some but it's normal You will get it fixed now but it will happen again. I don't think its necessary to fix it unless it's something major

I don't understand why you don't get a Clear bra. The new generation films are practically invisible and cost about $450 to protect your hood, fenders, mirrors & bumper. This price includes tax & installation.AeroTect is a Southern California 3M dealer and we install film on 2-3 cars and 2-3 Aircraft daily. Please call if you have any questions about paint protection. (866) 388-AERO

I used some clearcoat that I had from my last VW touchup and it at least covers the bare metal.

Clear bra's blend in well with light colored cars. However they really begin to show on dark colored cars right around 3 yrs after application.

With the new generation of quality films on the market (that were released within the last 6 months) that is really no longer an issue. Many films are warrantied for 5 years against discoloring and other problems that were an issue with the earlier films.

I too noticed a small rock chip right on my hood. It's about 1mm in diameter.. Although it's small, it is PISSING me off! Can't help but notice it... I bought touchup paint from the dealership. Put a base coat on and then had to apply a clear coat on top. Now the metal color underneath the paint is not noticable, but there is a bump from the paint. Couldn't avoid it cuz the rock chip created a crater with a border around it. The only way I could make it smooth was probably grind off the ridge around the rock chip and then reapply the touchup paint. I decided not to go that route though...

The first weekend I had my car somone felt like it was too pretty and had to put a big dent in the rear door with their ski. OK it wasn't really all that big but for pete sake, the first weekend I had the car??? Anyways, I take the car to get that fixed and the next weekend I get a door ding in the parking lot at work. I was able to buff it out to where it isn't too visible and the VERY next day, in my own visitor parking lot in front of the house, the car got hit hard enough by another door ding to take the clear coat off... I asked the dealer what to do and they said to just use the touch up paint. To have it repainted professionally would mean they would have to blend the paint and that alone will reduce the value of the car versus touch up paint... I am not sure how accurate that is but that is what I ended up doing....
