Smile New member from Bris Vegas

Hi everyone,
I pick up my new BMW on Wednesday, can't wait! This is such a great site for info, I thought I might as well contribute and join the community.
I'm getting a 325 auto with M Sport upgrade, innovations upgrade, sunroof, 18" rims in metalic saphire black, black dakota leather and the new aluminium interior. I'll post pictures of the beast asap.

Upgrading from a CV8 Monaro. Sad to see her go really, had alot of fun in her if you know what I mean. But I'm sick of a 6 sp manual in city traffic & $100 a week on petrol just putting around. Test drove GM's best, the Senator (impressive) but I was blown away by how superior the drive was in the BMW, I never really knew what all the fuss was about till I drove one - wow.

Bought through Brisbane BMW, great service there, reccommended!
Getting the factory tint done, but I said no to the paint / leather add ons.

Anyway, does anybody kwow if there are any BMW social events / rides around Brisbane?? And where do people get their car washed? I have been going to those hand wash cafe?

welcome aboard mate -nice choice of car. Will be a big change from the Monaro in terms of power but I think overall you will be happier with the BMW.

VGR02,

Thanks, Just checked out your car, looks awesome. Man I can't wait till Wed to pick her up. I hope it's not raining....terrible to say with the water situation and all. 20% off everything at Supercheap today, so I stocked up an the good stuff to keep her clean, dropped in to Bris BMW to make sure everything's on track, it is thank goodness; anyway the sales guy showed me these blackline rear indicators lights - they look pretty hot. Might get them as well.

Where you wash the car?

Thanks Toiman........

The Blacklines will sure look good. I think Bris BMW quoted me $440 for the set from memory. You should get a $100 gift voucher to spend in the lifestyle boutique when you pick up your car so you can put that towards the blacklines (something to think about). I have been thinking of doing this mod for a while but a part of my brain that controls conservatism over takes my desire everytime I'm about to buy them. I have the M3 lip spoiler being painted this week after Easter and maybe once that's on I might re-investigate the Blacklines.

Anyway .... good luck with your purchase. The team at Bris BMW are very good and I'm sure you will be well looked after.

BTW .... I don't go to any of the hand car wash cafes as I prefer to wash my car myself. I go to one of these car lover style places to use their water but I wont use their broom. I bring my own soap, sponge and bucket.

Capt OZ,

Hi. Sorry if this has been discussed before.

Drive thru car washes like BP etc, I know there crap, but will they scratch your car? I never really noticed it with my previous black car, but I'm concerned with the new BMW.

even hand carwash cafes are crap! they will ALL scratch ur car! get a microfiber mit, some new car gel etc and do it urself as softly as you can, and then get it detailed every once in a while... but thats if u wanna risk washing ur car in the restrictions i guess, if not then find a good detailer up there to wash it for u!

congrats on the purchase btw!

Sherweeeny,

Yeah the water police in Brisy are after me already. Tough maintaining a pool nowadays. Anyways I've just has a 10k ltr tank installed. So I'll be able to wash my own car in my own driveway soon, I think it' s been 1-2 years since I've had the pleasure.

Anybody know any good affordable detailers on the north side of Brisy?

I traded her in on the 911 Dan. She was a really good car but I must admit the 911 is even more fun and involving.

We have washed about 40,000 cars at Castle Hill since we opened in 2006 and about 300,000 including our other sites.

If you follow some rules you will eliminate the risk of scratching with any type of washing process (hand or machine).
  1. Make sure the paint surface is cool to touch before washing. Very important !!!
  2. Rinse off any dust.
  3. Use a clean mitt, sponge, carwash brush fibre, etc. If using a carwash, ensure it uses Softex fibres – not nylon).
  4. Use a good lubricant (i.e. shampoo).

If you want to keep your car really looking good:
  • Wash weekly.
  • Don’t use any chemicals on the wheels.
  • Swirl-remove and then Polish your paintwork and wheels every two months (minimum).
  • “Moist” chamois your leather weekly.
  • Don’t drive too close to other vehicles on motorways (stone chips).

Cheers,

CaptOz

those are awesome tips CaptOz

i actually do follow the wash weekly and polish every fortmonthly routine but the driving close to other vehicles on the motorway hasn't been mentioned much. i think in a busy city like Sydney it's kinda hard to do... people will just cut into the space you've left between yourself and the car in front!!

Capt Oz,

Thanks for that!
When you say don't use chemicals on your wheels, do you mean the spray on stuff that gets rid of grime and brake dust. Only use water in other words and a soft brush?

Spot on Toiman.

It's best to water blast off excessive brake dust and then just use a soapy mitt to finish the job. Sometimes neglected wheels require acid-based cleaners or degreasers as the brake dust bakes on to the wheel.

We do both leather and carpets. We use ChemDry products for steam-cleaning and varying leather products depending on the leather type and requirements.

Check out this sticky from the Detailing section of the US part of this forum.
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9145
Everything you need to know about keeping your car A1 and avoiding the dreaded swirl marks.
Do your own paint protection with Klasse AI1 and SG. You can get most of the products listed (including Klasse)from waxit.com.au. They are in Aspley Brisbane and if you phone you can make a time to go there if you wish. The guy is an ex detailer and very helpful.

Scheps,

I know I know it was a big decision, the power and look versus the convenience. In the end but I need to be able to carry 3 on the back seat (legally) now and then. And you know a had all that power in the CV8 monaro for 3+ years and I hardly ever had a chance to use it. The 325 with options was just shy of $100k the e92 would have been another $30k, it wasn't worth the money for it in my circumstances.

Pick up the new e90 tomorrow - "I'm so excited"......

My carpets aren't a problem, but I wouldn't mind coming in in th enext week or so to see what you can do for my driver's seat, it isn't quite as supple as it used to be, and is dirty in the folds and seams as i rarely get time to clean it
