Under manual mode, if you don't shift just right, you'll bounce off the rev limiter or short shift. It takes a bit of practice and timing to get it just right.

Second, they didn't launch it right - their best that night was 12.89 but 60' of 2.04. Honestly, if they knew how to launch and hook up, you'd been walked on. Just look at the trap - 111 vs. 108.

BUT, the IS-F is more difficult to launch than a 335i. Stiffer suspension = less squat = less weight transfer to the rear and the 54/46 weight vs. 50/50 puts less weight on the rear tires so it is really easy to light up the rear tires.

Your best was 12.84 and his was 12.89 but it was all lost and then some at the first 60'. So, you were simply the better driver that day. On the street with a rolling start, you'd need down pipes, and a little more tune.

HOWEVER, congrats on a great run man!

KN&N drop in filter is sufficient!!

tryangles...you might think that a CAI would be the most beneficial...nice big boy sound, lots of hp especially for turbo, etc. In most cases, yes, with other cars. However, with the 335i, the OEM intake is soooooo well designed, that you are really wasting money with a CAI. If you look under the hood, there isn't much wiggle room. A CAI may create more bends and turns (which is never good) b/c the placement of the filterbox is kinda sorta above the engine block unlike the 330i engine compartment. I don't know any manufacturer that makes a CAI for the 335i yet and if there is, please let me know so I can research the benefits. I spoke with the engineers at CP-E and they dyno'd the 335i without the air-filter box and the results showed minimal difference in HP. That is why they never persued the designing of a CAI. They said the stock intake has so little restriction that a $60 KN&N was sufficient enough. The only other way to increase the flow of air is to design a CAI (inside a box) that has tubes from outside connecting to it. Again, I haven't seen a CAI design yet to study. My guess is, if they have one, perhaps you'll see more benefits in the sound rather satisfaction in HP. Thanks.

v/r,
Chris

Clutch delay valve replacement for quicker times in 6-sp

Has anyone replaced the Clutch Delay Valve (CDV) on their 335i 6-sp manual yet? I bought a modified CDV for only $35 from http://store.zeckhausen.com/catalog/...roducts_id=497. It eliminates the delay when you drop the clutch. Ever wondered why your shifting is so smooth as if you've driven stick for 20 yrs? The 335i stick feels smooth, BUT too mushy. If you're good, then you still can shift smoothly after the modified CDV is installed. The factory CDV decreases the life of the clutch b/c basically in Barney style terms, you are riding the clutch every time you're shifting. BMW service advisors and mechanics agree. And if you work in DC, then you're fucked because in rush-hour traffic I'm never fully disengaging my 1 st gear anyway. The M3s (past and present) don't even have a CDV. I've been driving stick for 20 yrs now, but sometime in bumper-to-bumper traffic, I still can't help it with the 335i...not smelling that burnt clutch smell. By installing this part allows you to chirp your wheels in second gear while you're already driving b/c it engages and disengages the clutch in a heartbeat. In normal driving, it increases your clutch life. If no one installed it yet, I'll let you know how it is after I install it. I really miss that feeling on the drag strip, when you're slamming it in second gear, your transmission grips and your tires chirp, and you feel that bang, and your head hitting the head rest. That's the way it supposed to feel.

v/r,
Chris

Looking at the trap, the IS-F should beat the 335i, but it did not and that's was the outcome. Congrats to the OP.

Actually, I didn't read post 43 when I was typing post 44. After posting it, I noticed you snuck in post 43 1 minute before my 44.

Agreed!

Peter, your results are about what I expected for your car (and hopefully mine). I will use your launch advice when I head out to HRP sometime soon. What RPM were you manually shifting at, because according to my dyno, it looks like the best shift point would be at 5500rpm?

I had hoped to make it out to the TX2k8 on Sat and Sun in Sealy, but unfortunately was not able to. Glad to see, however, that you were representing our 335i's well!

Hey bud! I was shifting right at around 6,900-7,000 rpm. Remember, it's all about avg rwhp under the curve. Good luck and keep us updated.

Simply put, the 335i driver either had a better launch or the low end tq helped get to 100 faster but then the higher hp LX started to gain on it. We still don't know much on how well the 7 speed slush box is.

Wow. It's absurd how bad that back of that IS-F looks. The stacked quad pipes look about as rice as it gets. That next to one of the best looking cars, the E90 335i. That IS-F looks like a joke.

Congrats to the OP - fantastic driving. Blew away my 12.93/111.10 !!!

Nice Kill! Was this on 93 octane?
Does the IS-F weigh more or less than the 335i?
From the pics the IS-F looks smaller than the 335i, does anyone know?
