When I was in college I had a durango that I put some seriously dark tint on. I had 5% all the way around (on the rear windows that was on top of the stock tint) so it was like stepping into night. One thing I will say, it was hard as hell to see out and even harder to see in. For all intensive purposes, it was impossible to see in. It made driving at night difficult, to say the least... keep in mind, in LA weather is always clear with a few days of rain each year, so I never really had to deal with adverse conditions which certainly would have made things pretty sketchy. But I was willing to give sight up because back then I was more about the look than the functionality. I only got pulled over twice in 3 years, but then again I lived in LA where every other car has retardedly dark tint and rims, so it was no big deal. One of those times, I took it north to San Fran. When I got pulled over and just played dumb. Luckily the cop was really nice and let me off because "I didn't know" but told me to have it removed anyway (sans fine).

That was about 4 years ago, and these days I'm way more for function than look (to a certain extent )... also because I don't have much money to throw around, so I want my mods to count. I currently have 18% on my 335xi and I dig it. Part of me wishes I had gone with 15% to get a bit more privacy since the 18% is fairly modest. IMO, go with the 15% if you want it to look clean but still retain a good amount of visibility. If you are willing to sacrifice a lot of functionality, and just want a super private look, go for 10% or 5%. If you choose this, you should absolutely expect to get pulled over.

On my last car I had 2 layers of 5% on all windows and 1 layer of 15% on the windshield. I got 3 tickets in 1 year. Luckily my good friend is a cop and signed them all off for me. But driving at dark was next to impossible when I didn't know where I was going. I had to install a backup camera to even see behind the car. But it looked badass. Even walking up and trying to look into the windshield you could only see to the steering wheel IF the sun was coming in just right. I never had to even wear sunglasses in the car even on the sunnies of days. But now on my 335 I have 35%. I want people to see me in this car.

Your 20% is just fine. You don't need the Nypd all up in your business.

there is not much of a difference between 15 and 20%

dark tint is not the safest thing at night either
