328i lease.. bs dealer fee's?

hey guys.. first post here.. previous member of e46fanatics.. i was actually going to go to the g37 but the look of the e92 brought me back to bmw..

currently negotiating a lease deal on a e92 328i.. the price negotiated is pretty good but i wanted to verify which fee's are legit and which are BS..

1st month payment.. $500
motor vehicle... $262 <---bs?
tire disposal fee.. $6
security deposit.. $500
acquisition fee... $625
documentation... $249
national ad fee... $480 <---?

now i was almost positive the national ad fee was bs but the sales guy says that every dealership has to charge this fee..

can you guys tell me which fee's are negotiable/bs?

also, how much above invoice are you guys paying for your 328i?

thanks ~!

What dealership are you going through? I dealt with a ton of BS (and got completely ripped off) from Open Road BMW, I had a much more pleasing experience at Freehold for my E90. Are you buying a used E92 or a new one?

National ad fee is most likely MACO and it's legit.

Why do you think "Moter Vehicle" is "bs"? Isn't that your license and reg fees?

Documentation @ $249 is really the "BS" fee.

honestly this is the first time going though this process with a lease.. i guess the motor vehicle fee is probably reg... i just questioned the fee's that the other dealer didn't mention..

is maco charged by every dealer?

how much is reasonable for doc fee's? thanks..

Maco is charged by most if not all dealers I have dealt with...it varies by market..like the Maco fee in LA and SF are bigger than Fargo, North Dakota.

I have no idea why they are charging $249 for doc fees...it is probably trying to pay for the finance managers salary since he isnt selling permaplate or undercarriage protectant, or window etching any more.. I think you could negotiate at least a $100 of that..and make sure they throw in the crappy carpet mats...and NO..they are NOT worth $100 in my book..they are worth about $19.

Yep, I feel like I got ripped for my car as well, but all in all I didnt feel like waiting, haggling all day and I got a pretty sweet deal for what I have.

I got the guy to throw in the mats, and a lease worth of sirius for free.

thanks for the fast replies.. seems like this board is alot more lively than e90fanatics..

how much over invoice should be my target for negotiating?

also, anyone have experience with the aluminum trim? i've been reading that it scratches/dents easily.. i don't want to get charged for dings/dents on lease return..

Doc fee is BS. Shoot for $500 over invoice.
Make sure you know the invoice, and the MSRP, and you can negotiate from there.

I live in NJ and just bought from Difeo. motor vehicle... $262 is not BS fee as far as i know. IN NJ you are required to register for 3 years for new cars and have to pay upfront. in addition there are costs for title and plates.

However, i did not pay any national ad fee from Difeo. I did pay a doc/clerical fee but think it was 100 less than what you have there. I can check when i get home.

first place i went was park ave and they gave me a pretty good deal, then i called difeo and they beat it by a few hundred bucks. intially, difeo did quote very high numbers until i gave them my offer from another dealer

I bought my e90/328i about week ago, here's what I paid. I'm in the SF bay area.
First Mo. Pymt: 485
Security Dep: 500
Lic Fee: 290 (we pay a little more in CA)
DMV Tit/Reg: 28
CA Tire Fee: 7
Acquistion Fee: 625 (they originally wanted 825)
No Dealer Doc fee (dealer's way of extra profit), no national ad fee.
I would get those two remove from the deal.
I paid 400 over invoice.
If leasing, my money factor is at .00195 (most charging around .0022-.0024)
I'm on a 24 month lease.
Hope this helps...

Is 485/mon including taxes? What options do you have? Sounds like you got a pretty good deal

I don't mean to tell you what you paid for, but I'm gonna anyways
If you paid "400 over invoice" you paid a "national ad fee" The MACO appears ON THE INVOICE so a deal over invoice includes the MACO. There are some dealers who do not have a MACO on their invoice but they are not in heavily populated areas like SF.

How much was your down payment? and how long and how many miles is your lease? Thats near impossible unless you put down a large chunk of cash down.

Even a bone stock 335i sedan your looking at depreciation expense at $420 a month plus $130 for financing fees a month (at buy rate of current money factor which is the lowest its ever been). So for a near bone stock 335i sedan your looking at $550 a month the lowest you can go and maybe pick it up for $1k under invoice to reduce your payments $30 or so $$$. (again this is a 36 month 15k miles a year lease).

Sorry for the rant I just hate when people say I pay X (ridiculously low payment) and dont talk about the terms of the lease or the down payment.

Yes, either trade equity or money down.

The national ad and doc fee are BS.

WTF is MACO?

All I got hit with was:

Initial tital fees $191.50
NJ tire and Doc Fee $155.00
Sales/use tax $36.60
Acquiisition fee $725 (dealers will sometimes capitalize this into the cost)

The rest of my downpayment went to cap cost reduction
and 1st month payment

The total of all my doc fees (state of NJ) was $346

between your "motor vehicle... $262" and "documentation... $249"
they're hitting you for $511! that is BS!
and the "national ad fee" F@&K them!
what part of Nj you from?

The documentation fee and national ad fee are BS dealer fees. The motor vehicle fee has to be for a new tag because a tag transfer is usually under $75. Local dealers don't directly pay for national advertising.
$500 over invoice on a 328 is reasonable but it depends on the region where you are shopping.
