I think the GTR will become the most commonly crashed/stolen car of `09.

The GT2 is phenomenal but as said its more than twice the price.

I just think that although the figures say one thing, that a GTR would be eminently more driveable on normal roads in normal conditions, and don't forget what you're getting for half the price of the Porsche So even if the GTR gets close then it's job done IMHO for less than £60K.

Don't get me wrong, I'm the original 911 freak; totally blinkered and would normally choose one over much more 'impressive' machinery. It's just I've never really 'got' the GT2 since the 993 variant.

Is the weather crap today in Essex too mate?
Yes mate but think about it, anyone who can afford the 911 aint even going to think twice about buying a 55k nissan, no matter how quick it is..

911 turbo owners who have one stay with them on an acceleration run will think ''wow thats quick'' but know there in the better car!

911 GT2 owners will have a quicker car anyhow and know its something special (homologation etc).

Id rather have the 911. But £ for pace the GT-R is phoenominal

The weather was great untill a few hours ago mate! what about where you are dude?

MikeM i agree mate, going to a ''noughties'' Sierra cossie!

Evo has the GT2 in this months mag against the GT3 RS, Carrera GT and the 993 GT2

Evo goes with the GT3 RS and they say the GT2 is too fast for the road

They also say that the GT2 is on par with the Carrera GT so it's going to be rather quick but for £131,000 it should be. You could have 2 GTR's and 10K change....

Hmm wonder what I would have

Carl.

How can you say a 911 turbo is a better car than a GTR.

The GTR is faster to 60
The GTR is faster to 100
The GTR is faster to 100 then back to 0
The GTR is faster around a track
The GTR is faster around the Nurburgring
The GTR has a better gearbox
The GTR has a superior 4 wheels drive system
The GTR has a higher top speed
The GTR is 45k cheaper so makes better finacial sense.

The porsche is errrm a........Porsche

Have a look on the porsche board and read about all the unhappy 997 turbo owners whinging about the GTR.

Your wrong mate the GTR has the 997 turbo whipped in every area apart from badge Kudos. I could buy a 997 turbo if i wanted however ive piolted my best mates before he sold it and apart from its speed which is clearly impressive, inside was just like any other porsche.

I would think the GT2 would probbably have the legs of the GTR (and at 74k extra it better have!) until the Vspec comes out and whips the GT2

oh btw thanks for the thread hijack

Hi Steve
I see you’ve decided to wait for the Sat /Nav I couldn’t wait the extra 6 Months so I gone for a Base Car in the Same Colour (think the Extra £2600.00 for the Black edition is a bit of a Rip Off & I wasn’t to keen on the Black With Red Leather Trim) Paid the full deposit & Speced the Car Thursday So hopefully when my Dealer (Sims Oxford) puts them on the System 2nd April I should be 7th and in the first Batch of Cars for March 2009
Like you said we should have a Delivery Date within about 72 Hours of the system going live on 4th April (That will be the interesting part to see exactly where we are on the list) although I think you then have 30 Days to accept the Date and Sign a Contract after which time your Deposit is not Refundable.
Have you been on the Configurator yet now its up and working along with the Terms & Conditions
http://www.gtrnissan.com/index.html?deeplink=features|configurator

Good Choice Of Car & Colour
Chris

ER, quite easily stevie me old mucka

One is Nissan, One is a Porsche.

Think about it, A 325i coupe or a ford focus ST.

The focus is ONLY slightly quicker... But what in your opinion is the ''better'' car.

Which one is built better?
Which one is more stylish?
Which one is cheaper ( not always a good thing)
which one WOULD you have?

I love the GT-R. I really want one, but not over a Porsche 911 turbo, and as much as id love staying with one (not beating one) in a straightline. Perhaps being quicker in the twisties, it WOULD feel good, and it always will as it IS THE underdog of the two.

Your car snobbery totally rules your head.

You can list as many points as you want, but until you actually get your arse into the driving seat everything you spout is pure conjecture based on your own simplistic prejudices. The suited marketing men have you hook, line and sinker. They're patting their back pockets now and high-fiving each other.

I like the GT-R and see no problem with paying the money. It is a bit of a rebel with enough substance to kick sand in the face of many other cars. It has attitude.

I still have a beautifully presented GT-R hardback sales book that I picked up in Tokyo when the R34 was all the rage. Delightful young lady was very helpful even though we didn't share a single word in each others language.

lovely colour combo...

Think I'm gonna do the sensible thing... for once - and get one of these second hand when I assume the price drops just like the M3...

Gonna be awsome watching out for these in 2009 though - great choice steve !

Someone in my Bar has just ordered his, he's a squillionaire and he's had a GT1 track racer let alone GT2's.

Put it this way he's very excited.

SJ

p.s. my e93 turboooo will stick kick your ass (! ) will be about 1000BHP by then...... lol !

I think this car is insane! and I now LOVE it! (almost as much as an M3 ) (playing it on GT5 prologue

My badge snobbery spectacles was clouding my view. I was thinking I really don't want a 350z or Micra - BUT this is a different car!

I reckon this badass car will rightly take away sales of the R8 (all new versions) IF ppl can overcome their snobbery like I am trying to and save a shed load of cash in the process (well the taxman will still be smiling)

I wonder if they will make it a volume car ?

They always said the 350z would be a limited run and that didn't really work out that way...

Balance volume of sales versus desirability/rarity ?

I hope there will BE some second hand ones around

This is where i feel people are getting confused. The GT-R owner i feel is very different to the Audi R8 type owner, the audi for the money is slow... people who buy it aint buying it to blitz everything, i mean ffs a estate m5 and the new m3 are quicker (well the m5 is but the m3 stays with it)

GT-R owners are buying it because its a ''911 beater'' supposedly, but actually lives with it, not beat it.. which is amazing for a caR only just over half the price of the porsche.

Its a boy racer car for the noughties, and i love it, but will wait till there cheaper. Unless i earn more money by then

fair point mate, kind of ironic though that the R8 will be a hell of alot slower, and IMO will be seen as more of a willy extension next to the gtr. you're right the m5 touring is quicker to 100 mph (than the r8) and that shocks alot of people.

Even though I'd love a GTR now, if I had the money I'd still buy a M3, its kind of a boyhood dream thing y'know something I have lusted after for many a year

Awesome pick Steve. I finally saw the GT-R in person yesterday at the Denver Auto Show. SuperSilver. I was on the list to get mine here, but all the Nissan dealers are being butts about it..so I got, and am modifying a 335xi.

Did you get MSRP? I am definately going to get one eventually.

It is funny.

Subliminal. Same as you quoting about the glossy mags that DMS advertise in as one of the swaying factors for your decison there. All part of marketing and product placement.

Hook, line and sinker. Blank canvas for the marketing boys to use.

**** boxes ? Completely contradicting your own previous opinions about them.

And now you are all starry eyed and dreaming about Porsches.

You are fickle.
