E90 engine fun...

We have the first engine apart at our engine builders - super nice piece! The block is amazingly light, but the head makes up for it with some big cast in runners. Should have flow data on the head soon and then it is time to play with cams. It seems like there will be a lot we can do there. Street cams will probably come out in a year or a little more for public sale. Have to get the cams drawn up to be cut in the next few months and then I should have a prototype set for our car.

Interesting. But can you adjust/replace the cams easily and make it run more efficient/powerfull because of the Valvetronic? I thought/read somewhere it would be rather difficult.

No idea on pricing. We are working on software as well.

You have to understand the Valvetronic - that is the difficult part. Changing cams is not a huge deal.

Music to my ears! Are you guys designing cams for a 330 or 325? I'm hoping that the word out there that the N52 engine is completely tapped out is not true. Plz keep us updated. Thanks.

So do you think the head and Valvetronic will be able to handle anything other than the ultra expensive super light hydraformed hollow camshafts ?

Also wondeing how companies are going to get past the way the cars are programmed.

If you go for a specific problem the entire car is reprogrammed, including the engine, because the car cosists of about 3 busses that move all the info/ code around them

So if the car goes in for programming for say a transmission fault, the BMW system will upload new engine software aswell, instead of the old way where you could programme individual systems

These answers and more a little further down the development road. We are designing our cams for the race cars now - those definitely test the limits of what any part can take...
