Difference between 13538648937 injectors and 13538616079

I'm confused, both injectors show same 261 model number of the actual injector along with index 12...

Anyone have any clarity on why the 079 injector is so much more than the 937?

079 is the "kit" which is the white plastic tube along with the injector and the injector cap.

The other is the actual injector by itself.

Seriously, for $100 less it just doesn't have the tube.

On ecs it appears the cap is with the 937 too and that makes sense as that's probably an integral part due to the swelling of the seal.

This makes no sense, am I missing something.

For as long as you can confirm that the 937 part is index 12, you are good to go.

They did saying that the more expensive ones are the right part number for the e90 n54. I personally dont see the difference still. I live in Australia and did not want to mess around sending them back if they were wrong. If i were in America i would give it a crack. There is also anther post on this forum with someone saying they work fine

I don't know the history well enough on these injector part numbers. I kind of wonder if these are remanufactured units. Pure speculation of course. These same part numbers appear for the N54 and N63 from what I could find.

I just ordered a set from FCPEuro. Will post back my experience.

This is what I ordered: https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...-13538616079kt

Also read this, which added some clarity: https://www.fcpeuro.com/blog/posts/d...nd-13538616079

I bought the 13538648937 injector from fcp. The 13538648937 is the part number on the box. The actual part number on the injector is ...261-12.
I asked fcp what the difference between the 13538648937 and 13538616079 was and this was their response.

Thank you for the inquiry. We no longer offer p/n 13538616079 for sale. It's an expensive injector that BMW continues to list for warranty work. BMW released p/n 13538648937 which is an upgraded injector designed to address the failure points of this injector which they only list under a parts bulletin. This injector has an upgraded internal filer and optimized thermal compensating oil which together should take care of the failure point on these injectors. Similar to 13538616079 these new injectors are also index 12 and would require the same type of calibration after installation. Compared to the 13538616079 injectors the 13538648937 injector is over 50% less in price while promising to be the more durable option long term.

OMG I wish I knew that before I bought 6x 079 injectors. It nearly broke me!

How long has the 13538648937 part been around and does anybody know why it's not on realoem?

ECS and Turner list this part number as no longer available.

FYI, Pelican is also selling them...albeit at a hefty markup compared to others.

http://www.pelicanparts.com/More_Inf...9&KeepHeader=Y

The notes say "Notes: This is an alternate injector to BMW # 13 53 8 616 079. There is no difference in fitment or performance. "

Thanks for posting this. I have been checking in to see your experience. Going to order through FCP tomorrow. Someone claimed FCP does price matching and bmwpartswarehouse has them listed for $108/piece. I am going to see if FCP will match that price.

if you read SI B13 08 15 it mentions the 937 part number as coming out the same time as -12s which came in the 079 part number (jan 2013).

my guess is there was some sort of agreement with the manufacturer of the injectors and having different part numbers allowed bmw to differentiate between injectors used as part of the customer care package on the n63 and those buying new ones.

maybe they've overstocked and are now getting rid of the remaining 937 injectors?

all -12s afaik have the compensating oil and improved internal filter.

I just bought from bmwpartswarehouse.com. Thanks for the heads up on that deal. It was $678 + shipping for a set of 6 with decouplers for the 937 part number. For some reason, shipping was very high ($65), but still > $200 cheaper than FCP.

I had an injector die a few weeks ago and don't want to deal with that again. I have 4 index 7s, 1 index 8, and 1 index 9 (which is the one I just swapped, had it in the garage). Assuming if one of them was in such bad condition that the others can't be far behind. 89K miles on the car.

Fcpeuro price matched for me back in December. Also used the price from bmwpartswarehouse. Just had to cover the shipping charge bmwpartswarehouse was charging.

I did the exact same thing yesterday. Unfortunately FCP's price went to $950 for the set of 6. I called to see about price matching and they don't run phones on the weekend. The ironic thing is my vehicle qualifies for the reimbursement program for injectors but the bargain hunter in me still insists on finding the best deal. Anyhow, I will try to report back on what I get from bmwpartswarehouse.
