Vessel: Camellia Ace ETA Port Hueneme APRIL 24

Camellia Ace departed Bremerhaven on 3/29 and should be out on the Atlantic Ocean now. She is scheduled to reach the Panama Canal on 4/15 and Port Hueneme on 4/24.

Anyone tracking her besides me?

I am currently watching the AIS radar in the PanCanal region for Camilla Ace (I am doing this for a friend) and Don Juan (for the other thread). I am also tracking Hojin (for my own car), which is due into the PanCanal region this Thursday, April 17. I will update the thread if I find anything new, but Tuesday should be a great "milestone" day, as we will be able to see Camilla Ace and Don Juan again on radar.

I just found Camilla Ace!! She's in the Panama region by Aruba. I will post her AIS screenshot in a minute. I can't believe she's there!

Ok. Here she is! The first screenshot is easy for you to see her (she's towards the left of the radar screen). It looks like she's departing Aruba and heading towards the PanCanal.

The second screenshot is more difficult to find her. You can see her label in the next large red box on the right of the PanCanal. (That is the same red box zoomed in on the screenshot above and it is Aruba).

It is very cool to see her in the PanCanal region already, as she's not due into the PanCanal Atlantic anchorages until Tuesday. But at least we now have an idea how close she is to arriving.

Update on Camellia Ace as she's headed away from Aruba and towards the Panama Canal.

Here's an AIS radar update of the Panama Canal Approach. Camillia Ace hasn't arrived, yet. I have checked all around the region. I will be watching for her throughout the day and will post updates.

It looks like Camilla Ace is just outside that next port over from the PanCanal. I am not sure which port that is. Maybe Portobelo. I am not able to zoom in on it.

Boyd's updated the PanCanal schedule. Camellia Ace is still scheduled to arrive at the PanCanal on 4/15, but then she is "booked" to transit the canal on 4/16. Great news! She may reach SoCal early. You never know until closer to the end of the journey, though.

Camellia Ace has dropped off of the AIS radar, presumably because she's left port (Baranquilla) and is heading towards the Atlantic anchorage of the Panama Canal. She is scheduled to transit the canal on Wednesday.

No sign of Camellia Ace in the Atlantic Anchorage of the PanCanal, yet. She's due anytime. I will keep an eye on the AIS radar for her throughout tomorrow.

Here's a AIS update from this morning. Still don't Camellia Ace. Boyd's still shows her arriving today and transiting tomorrow.

Boyd's PanCanal schedule shows Camellia Ace is due into anchorage at 1900 hours tonight. That schedule was last updated yesterday, though, so her timing could change.

Camellia Ace has completely dropped off of today's updated PanCanal schedule. That might mean she's not going to transit tomorrow, as she was scheduled.

So does that mean she'll be late or she's early?

If she transits tomorrow, like she was originally scheduled, she will be on time, possibly a day early. But, they took her off the schedule today and I don't know why. I do know that Madame Butterfly and Maersk Wind, other ships due into PH, are running several days late. I think I saw that Madame Butterfly waited four days in the PanCanal Atlantic anchorage before she transited.

There has been a surge in the number of ships trying to transit the canal, and so there is now a backlog. Here are a couple of the PanCanal advisories:

http://www.pancanal.com/common/marit.../a-08-2008.pdf

http://www.pancanal.com/common/marit.../a-09-2008.pdf

We will just have to wait and see what happens with these ships. This backlog probably happens periodically. I just haven't seen it in the two years I have tracked ships on and off.

She's now stopped in the bay just outside the entrance to the Panama Canal. We will have to wait and see what she does. Typically, these ships start transiting the canal very early in the morning, between 5-10 am PST. I am usually up at 5 am, so I will check on her in the morning, both on AIS radar and the PanCanal web cams, and see if she has moved. If she does transit, she will first go through the Gatun Locks, then pass under the Centennial Bridge, then go through the Mira Flores Locks. There are web cams at all three of those locations. If she starts through Gatun at 5 am, she will finish at Mira Flores about 4 pm. It takes all day for super vessels to go through all 51 miles of the canal system.

Here's the web site to the Panama Canal web cams:
