So far, I am not seeing any of these ships on sailwx. Maybe that will change and sailwx will get some updated weather reports later today. NYK Line ships rarely report their weather observations, so I doubt we will get anything from Hojin's bridge staff.

Great. I just panned out on that web site and it looks like we might lose her because she's getting far from port and radar signal. Click on "English Channel" and you will see what I mean. If you could try to capture what you can, that would be great. I will be around for another hour, so I will keep an eye on her and capture what I can on aislive.com.

I am also monitoring aislive.com (you can see Hojin up by Southampton), which has better coverage (see this screen shot), but that is a tricky subscription service. If you get a free subscription, it is only good for two weeks. So, you don't want to sign up, yet, as it is handy to have through the PanCanal and SoCal area. The paid subscription is $1300/yr. The subscription I have is ongoing, so I don't have to worry about the two-week limit. I will keep an eye on it, too. Maybe I can get my husband to take some screen shots while I am gone. I really want to get a record of the ship names that are exiting the Channel.

Oh, and also, aislive.com screenshots can be delayed up to one hour, so you can see the difference between this screen shot and the other web sites.

Here is another web site I found yesterday and I am still trying to figure out if it will be useful: oceanweather.com Click on "Current Marine Data" tab, then "North Atlantic" on the left, then "Southern Region" on the left, then "Marine Observations" circle at the top. This seems to be raw weather observations ship location data, like sailwx.com, but with ship's call signs only. I don't know if there is varying information between this web site and sailwx, but I am going to keep and eye on it to see. It seems to be more current than sailwx, but I don't know. Hojin's callsign is YJYN8. Right now, there is such a blob of ships in the English Channel on this map, that it is difficult to determine the callsigns.

Great. I am on my phone and can't see the graphic on the screen. Keep trying to capture shots. I have my 13-yr-old capturing/saving aislive.com shots every 30 minutes ;-). I will post those in a few hrs when I get home (as long as he did it as I showed him!). Hopefully over the next week we can pick off a ship on sailwx that was in the channel w Hojin and have an idea where Hojin is in the Atlantic. It is a game, but without it Hojin goes into a black hole for almost two weeks. It is a long wait.

I just looked at the screen ahead. Hojin has one more screen to go as the English Channel opens up to the Atlantic. So, we still have a little ways of tracking to go.

Here is the final screen before the open ocean. In the first map, Hojin is in the clump of green arrows just coming into view.

That's great! There are three of us so far, but there are probably more. If there are any Hojin lurkers out there, please join us! The more the merrier. I have found that it is common for MiniCooper, Porsche, SmartCar and MB trackers to check this forum because it has the best ship tracking. That is why I am here.

Hojin is about to go out into the Atlantic and is due into the PanCanal on 4/17. It is the PanCanal when tracking becomes really fun. We will be able to watch her go through the PanCanal locks on the web cams, then it is just six days from that time to her arrival in SoCal. We will also be able to track her in and around the SoCal ports. She isn't going into San Diego, but she is going into the port of LA, then Port Hueneme.

This will be my last post tonight. Hojin is just on the edge of AIS radar and will go out of tracking view in the next hour.

Maybe if we are lucky, Hojin's captain or bridge staff will call in daily weather reports and we will be able to track her on sailwx.com this week, as she crosses the Atlantic. We will just have to wait and see. . .

So far, Hojin hasn't reported in on the marine weather observation system, so there is no update on sailwx.info for her. I cannot find any ships on sailwx today that were around Hojin in the English Channel, either (comparing sailwx maps from today with the AIS radar screenshots from Sunday), just to estimate where Hojin would be out in the Atlantic. Maybe one of the ships she was close to in the English Channel will report in one of these days and we will be able to know approx where Hojin is on the Atlantic, but for now, she's in a black hole on the Atlantic Ocean and we can only guess where she's at. NYK Line ships (Hojin's owner) rarely reports weather observations, so I have very little hope that she will show up on sailwx. And, since she is not near any ports, AIS radar won't pick up her signal, either.

Boyd's Steamship Panama Canal schedule shows she will arrive in the PanCanal region on 4/17. This schedule is usually correct when it comes to ship arrivals. From that, I made a map to give us an idea of where Hojin is each day, as she sails across the Atlantic Ocean. That is all we have to go by for now. Of course in real life, some days they travel further than others, depending on the weather, so these points on this map are only an estimate.

Once she reaches the Panama Canal, then there will be a lot of tracking to do. She will be in the Panama region for two to three days. It will take most of the daylight hours on one day just for her to go through the 51 miles of the Panama Canal system.

Thanks for the estimates spn!

Instead of doing all the dots at once, you should have made a new post every day, with a new dot added each day. Just so we have something to get excited about
