What am I doing wrong?

I know I can check under-the-hood systems by using the little dial on the turn signal stalk however I only get checks for the engine, the oil, and time/date settings. How do I get the rest? I remember several months ago I was foolling around with this, not looking for anything in particular, just trying it out, and all of the icons appeared (coolant, trans, spark plugs, etc) so how come I can't seem to get to them now? I don't remember what I did that one time to get all the checks...

(325i, non-sport, purchased June, 2005)

It's under the "Service Info" Car in "On" position and stationary. This was done for safety reasons probably.

Yeah, let's not be browsing the OBC while driving! Might as well be putting on eye makeup.
