PERFORM THE PROCEDURE OUTLINED IN THIS SERVICE INFORMATION ON ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES THE NEXT TIME THEY ARE IN THE SHOP FOR MAINTENANCE OR REPAIRS.

SUBJECT
Service Action: Replace the High-Pressure Pump


MODEL
E90, E92, and E93 with the N54 engine produced from 06/01/2006 through 10/28/2006


SITUATION
An internal component in the high-pressure pump (HDP) may fail, causing drivability symptoms such as longer starting times or erratic engine operation. It may also lead to a premature failure of the HDP on vehicles at higher mileages.

Should this situation occur, the HDP emergency operation is activated and the Service Engine Soon lamp (MIL) is illuminated.

Note:

In this situation, the vehicle can continue to be driven, even for long distances, without any risk of breakdown.

AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Service Action involves E90, E92 and E93 vehicles with N54 engines which were produced from 06/01/2006 through 10/28/2006.

In order to determine whether a specific vehicle is affected by this Service Action, it will be necessary to utilize the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or the Key Reader. Based on the response of the system, either proceed with the corrective action or take no further action.

The chassis number ranges listed below are only for informational purposes and are not to be considered as the only deciding factor.

Please refer to TIS Repair Instruction RA 13 51 017, Removing and installing, or replacing high-pressure fuel pump (N54, N53).

So how do we determine when our engine was built? Assuming the engines were built several months prior to being installed. 6 month lead time? 3 month lead time?

For example, a May '07 build 335i could have 12/2006 engine build (5-6 month lead time).

It goes by vehicle production dates. So just look at the sticker between your door jam to find your production date if you dont know it

You guys that fall in the production dates/vin should be getting a letter in the mail about it as well.

That was my first thought, but is BMW implying that post 10/06 car builds (not engine build dates) are not affected by this fuel pump issue?

I have a production date of 10/06. Let's see if I get a letter. I just took my car in for service this weekend, and they didn't mention anything.

I have an April 07 build with a chassis # that falls into that range so I guess it is going according to when the engine was built and not the car then because my car wouldn't apply to the 10/06 cutoff that they listed. Hmm....

edit: btw, this is what the SIB above says for you that have the chassis numbers listed

interesting, this SIB covers cars made only in Munich and regensberg. looks like leipzig isnt part of the recall, nor dingolfing.

I would run out and check mine but my car is at the dealer for what is thought to be a fuel pump problem. It's been there for 5 days now and they can't duplicate the problem that was so obvious literally minutes before I dropped it off.

They read 4 fault codes related to the pump but that's not enough to warrant replacement. They need the car to act up for them to confirm. Maybe a service bulletin/recall will be enough.

My car was built in Jan. 2007. Hopefully I fall into the range. I need the car back. I have a set of new 19" CSL's waiting to go on!

So is the chassis code the same as the last part of your VIN? Mine was a 05/07 build, but my VIN is in that chassis code range if that's what it means.

Yes that is what it means. Mines a July build and I am in the chassis code range. Curious what the other factors are and whether or not there is anything new to the pump. From the bulletin it sounds like a mfg defect in the pump.
