Check Engine Soon...Thoughts?

The check engine soon light just turned on. Car is under warranty and I'm planning to take it to the dealer tomorrow or Friday. No tunes or anything, bone stock. 38k on the clock, no long cranks or anything. All systems ok and oil was changed 1,000 miles ago at the dealer...

The check engine light turned on after a two hour stop. Car was not driven hard before parking it.

Any thoughts?

Have dealership read codes. Could be many factors. Mine turned on few weeks ago but not sure what triggered it. I know my service due light (yellow) came on for microfilter buI i reset the light, service light its gone but check engine light still on. I am also due for spark plugs in about 6k miles so maybe thats why? Last but not least my DS mode stopped working. But im working on resolving this. Anyone had this experience?

There could literally be hundreds of reasons why your cel came on. Have the codes read and then deal with it accordingly. Based on the information you provided no one will give you an accurate diagnosis.

Nubee question here. Just got my first bimmer this weekend. So how do I know when to bring it for maintenance? I own a MB C-240 and the dash LCD flags for either a Service A or Service B due. Is it the same for the Bimmers? I heard they don't do the maintenance schedules like the Mercedes. I appreciate any thoughts.

True. As of yesterday, no signs. Started the car this morning and had a slight rough start. Felt as the beginins of the HPFP simptoms, which I had to replace in my previous E90. But in that case I never had an SES light,,,,

Not sure whats the problem might be but just my 2 cents from my very limited experience..When i took mine for the same problem they said even a small thing like not properly tightening your gas tank cap could also cause it..i reved up the car on the freeway because some truck guy decided to merge from third lane to second lane and it may have caused my DMTC pump to go bad...well i hope there is nothing major with yours...

Reading both the Owner and Service/Warranty manuals will explain CBS and time/mileage recommended services and how to read the info from your iDrive or BC.

What tool do i need to read the codes? My SES light is ON. My spark plugs are due in 5K I wonder if this is why?

Mine came on last week for the first time. I was going to wait a week before taking it in and sure enough after about 7 startups over the course of maybe 5 days it just magically disappeared.
