I wold think that is it.
And you will need 2 x tweeters, all parts are singles.

Gizze thanks - you are such a great help its appreiciated.

It came to 107 in total, so I think the tweeters come in packs of 2 anyway, if i have ordered too many I will only take the one set and let them keep the other set.

thanks again

What do you mean by "under the floor at the back"? Under the rear seats or under the floor mats? Could you explain in more detail or with pics? What is the best place to install the THA 275 PnP to? Thanks!

There is a big space under the floor where the amp will fit, you need to lift the floor up, then you will see two plastic rivets, take them out and you can lift the rear of the floor up and put the amp in there.

Or just put in in the side at the back, behind the passenger side panel.

You should also take the trim away under the dash, under the steering wheel there should be plenty of room to tuck the amp in.

That is what I got for my E92 and it worked fine, it is worth getting some of the clips that hold the door on as they can break.

The E92 has a lift our boot floor with 2 recesses in the metal boot floor, I believe this is where the BMW fit the amp. Thelift out part of the boot floor is angled to meet the seats when folded, this is probalbly different for E90 to E92

ok Gizze & everyone - one or two more questions or maybe more

going to fit the 275 on Sat and tweeters

1. Do I disconnect the battery first?
2. The 275 powers the front speakers, so I presume I only need to plug in the front speaker connections to the harness and then into the amp? and the rears are powered from the head unit? how Do i know which is which
3. I am going to mount the 275 in the boot - is it worth getting the 475 instead so I can power the rears two - or shall I save the dinero.

Thanks!

1) I wouldn't bother, but I guess you could.

2) The Blaupunkt cable will make it obvious how to wire it up.

3) I would save the money, once you have power up front you will fade the rears right down.

Hi Gizze,

I understand your car has the DSL R4's fitted in the OEM mounting holes. Did these speakers fit right away? Did you have to modify the door panel in any way? I'm am thinking of getting these myself as a replacement for the stock speakers and power them with a Blaupunkt amp, just like you did. Thanks a lot for all your input and detailed pics btw.. Higly appreciated...

I don't have my E90 sedan yet, I think I can pick it up in a couple of weeks. Originally I ordered a 318i with the Logic 7 upgrade as a new company car but BMW wasn't taking orders anymore. I settled for an already produced car with some nice packages. I don't really like the car's facelift anyway. But.. my car won't have L7 so I will have to arrange something in the audio department myself since I don't think much of the basic stock sytem...

Hi Maykel.

I fitted the seaker to the outside of the door panel using the DLS mount ring and grille.

If I take the speaker off and put the oem grille back on it will just cover the screw holes, I have the m-sport shadow cloth in my car though, so taking a screw out of cloth is always easy as you can patch the hole up, if it were leather I wouldn't be so quick doing this.

Also, if I were to do it again I would just buy the L7 tweeter and use that, the stock speakers are pretty good when driven properly and the L7 tweeter is excellent.

Hi Gizze,

Thanks for your quick response and clear answer. Your solution sounds great to me. My car will have the dark grey fabric on the door panels and I think the DSL grille will match perfectly.

Adding an L7 tweeter to the dualcone stock speaker could be an option but my first guess would be that a dedicated midrange speaker will perform better. In both cases I'll need the BMW tweater housing that the upgraded systems use to have it look OEM, but it seems your tweeter can be directed within a certain range.. that's probably a big advantage compared to the fixed BMW housing. '

Perhaps it's best to start with the amp.. and go from there. At least I now know for sure that the DSL's fit. I heard them once and they sound great if I recall correctly.

Thanks!

Hi Gizze,

first of all let me say you that this thread is pretty brilliant, I think I'll go with this updgrade in some months ( ).

I have some questions, maybe repeated but I actually didn't find response in the whole thread:

- I take it that you don't need new wires from the amp directly to the speakers, right? The pnp Blaupunkt wire goes from the headunit to the amp, and back from the amp to the headunit with the amplified signal. Is that correct?

- What speakers do you have in the rear? OEM ones or another DLSs? Are they connected to the amp (I suppose they are)?

- Finally, you said 300 for a pair of Earthquake subs mounted in BMW baskets and enough cable to get back to the amp. Did you buy the Earthquakes mounted on the baskets or you mounted them? In that case, did you use any adapter or silicone to make them fit?

Thanks in advance, you're a master

And sorry, the final one ...

I take it that the amp doesn't need to be connected to the battery... It seems that you did connect it, didn't you?

Thanks again

You don't need to run new wires, that is the beauty of the plug and play harness.

The rears are off the amp as well, if you only have the 2 channel amp the cable hooks together so the speakers are powered of the head unit still.

I just left the oem rears in, when I put systems together I never use any rears, my fader is on ^9 (out of 11) so they only give a little rear fill.

You can actually bridge the front channels, so I may do this, this gives the fronts a lot more power and then I would run the rears of the head unit again.

I took the standard drivers out and used sealant to put the drivers in, this is the only time you need to run new wires, to the subs.

I ran the power to the battery as you get more slam, more authority to the sound. Not sure it would be ok off the radio power with subs as well, probably would but getting a clean power supply is essential for decent audio. With the BMW battery being in the back any way it is a no brainer really.

OK thank you very much, this is a must in my basic sound car.

Dou you think the OEM wires are good enough to work with that wattage? (I know the subs have new wires, I mean the F/R speakers)

Where did you get the remote for the amp? Is it included in the Blaupunkt pnp wires? (I suppose you only want the amp to be switched on when the radio is on)

Gizze, Kend,

I have all my parts now 275 + cables and L7 tweeters and housing

Did I get ripped off at BMW parts dept, as I paid 107 for the L7 tweeters and mouldings

Basically I got charged 36.68 ex vat for EACH tweeter, I though this would have been for both. I managed to haggle and get a 10% discount done to 95 in total.

Its confusing as even though the decription for the tweeters states "speaker-set" they come in singular form, so you have to buy two.

(part number b65.13.6.964.013)

I was expecting it to be 60 odd in total.

Cheers!

Question on the amp, at the back it has a switch for low pass off and on, and dials to adjust for level, hi pass and low pass - WTF are these settings do i leave alone. God I am rubbish at this stuff!

I've also connected all the cables up and worked out where they all go before I start, I note that the extension cable going into the amp has two bundles of grey white cables (labelled front) I presume these are the front channels and the other ones rears? AND, at the front in the adapter harness there is a yellow to yellow connection, but nothing for the red? Again I guess this is fine. Must be for the other brands of car that the cable supports.

thanks

I used the basic level tweeter with the part number ending in 012 which were about 18.00 each.
It looks like you got the expensive tweeter which is from the expensive speaker range - L7?
With a 10% discount it was the correct price for the bits you bought

Thanks Kend, you're right, on the back of the tweeter (orange label) its states L7. Feel better now I know I wasn't ripped by the stealer
