I'm starting to get sick of ...

people wanting to race me from traffic lights.

The other night I was driving home and some git in an RS4 pulled up next to me at the lights. I was made aware of his presence by him revving his engine. We exchanged glances and I thought, what the heck, it could be fun and pushed the "M" button in preparation. We took off neck and neck, when the phone rang .. it was my mother, who rarely rings on my mobile, so I thought it was important and answered it .... in this process, I forgot to change gear and hit the rev limiter!!! The car just died. I feel I have let the whole M3 community down

Take it out to WSID and see what it runs! I know of an RS4 that's run 12.8 @ 108 mph at WSID, haven't seen any M3's tested there, only the mag comparo's. Although I reckon you'd need a gun launch and awesome pass to crack a sub 13.0 in one. Too hard without the AWD launch the RS4 has.

There's a private day being organised in July which is always good fun. I'm aiming to take one of my cars out and see if I can't get a better ET, shooting for low 11 and 125+ mph.

Sorry people, cant help a personal response to this post
A word from an old "been there done that"....
Grow up! Owning a high powered car requries responsibility. Just because some goose beside you on a public street published the fact that he is some sort of mindless fool does not mean you have to respond.
Question: do you know someone who has lost their lives to this sort of behaviour??? Obviously not.
I was hoping that this forum was clean from these types of posts?

I think you have got the wrong end of my post and whilst I don't appreciate the personal attack, concur with your general sentiment .... as I said in the subject, I'm sick of people wanting to race me. BTW, my car will only do about 60km/h in 1st gear.

Having a fang every now and then when its safe to do so is not a problem in my books. By a fang i mean rapid acceleration to 90km/h - 100km/h and no more on a public road with 80km speed limit with no cars in sight.

Im starting to get the same kind of people trying to race me in mild traffic, just recently a e90 330 driver thought my 335 was slower then his car.

Usual cars that want to race me:

R32 Golf drivers (1)
GTI Golf drivers (lost count)
E90 Drivers (2 so far)

To my surprise no Holdens and Ford drivers yet

They usually tried to race my X3

But by that mantra why don't you just take your car out to WSID where you can run it as quick and as fast as it will go in a controlled environment with no chance of hitting bystanders or loosing your licence.

The upside also is it lets you know how fast your car is anyway, thus negating the need or desire to street race. The downside is you'll soon find a 335 or M3 isn't a fast street car. But that doesn't negate the enjoyment of going out there and seeing how fast you can go and competing against yourself or a mate.

1q2w3e4r if i had time i would go and test the limits of my car with pleasure. I don't street race and neither do my best mates mainly due to the fact that one of our distant friend from school past away while being the passenger of a driver that was speeding. My only problem is accelerating to the speed limit and a once every two month fang at 3am in the morning on roads that have no cars present or bystanders.

When i got approached by a GTI the other day that was revving at me i only accelerated to the speed limit where i was 2 car lengths in front of him then stopped and let him go by. This was also in an area where there were 3 lanes going both ways and no traffic. I couldn't take the emotional hit of a being the one to take anothers life by street racing/speeding.

I have never lost any dermit points from the 3 licences(P1, P2 and full) that i have obtained through 3.5 years (crucial 3.5 years of p's). While almost all p-platers i know have been busted speeding 30-40kms/h over the speed limit on roads with cars present. Even full licence drivers do it.

No offence, but at 0-100 in 8.4s for the E93 325i AT, think yourself fortunate, as there isn't much your going to beat in a race, except for the 4cylinder petrol BMW's, but not the diesels as the 320d does 0-100 in 8.2s.

Brad, I don't think removing the badge would work .... a Morris Minor body kit though? That might work.

Rgds,

LOL thanks Stu, but the M3 is worth all the challenges when I walk out to the car park and see 335 owner Vik P ing on my car ... I now carry a chamois to work.
BTW, you'll be pleased to know that someone has made a comment about your car on my YouTube channel (the video where I was following you around the Sea Cliff Bridge) ... "Love the 335i Sedan in the shot. Wolf in sheeps clothing." was the comment ... I think that is exactly what you are trying to achieve isn't it?

My appologies for the personal attack. Unfortunately having recently lost someone close to me who was tragically run down by a person who chose to engage in a street drag, whilst being on the phone to his mates at the same time was perhaps a bit too close to the bone.
For the record, this incident happened at 4:25am whilst he was sitting at a poorly lit bus stop seat waiting to go to work. The street was void of other cars at the time, and in the offenders record of interview, he thought at the time that a race would be "safe" as the area appeared to be deserted. He lost control at high speed whilst being destracted on the mobile phone and proceeded to clean up the bus stop seat and its inocent occupant.

My tip is to never assume that driving at high speed on a public road would always be safe. Situations can change in an instant.

All this aside, I guess the only good thing from the post from my perspective is that it raised some discussion/awareness of this increasing trend and the need for continued driver responsibility and thoughtfulness.
Happy and safe motoring.

Yes, that's the aim. Besides if my customers think I'm making too much money (i.e. driving very expensive cars) they will tend to haggle more, which isn't good for business.

BTW when are we doing another drive day, maybe a drive up to the hunter with some vino tasting?

Went for a drive today and a new experience....

Coming around a very large roundabout, I am going straight through the roundable and I see an old ute coming down the hill on my left about to come towards the roundabout.

I start to drive through the roundable and the old ute continues to drive as well, I slow right down and easily miss him and he just stares straight at me, rubs his nose with his middle finger and potters off around the roundabout in his 1990's Nissan Navara Ute..

Jealous I would assume!

First time I have experienced a wanker like that
