Not bad for a diesel

Reading through an old mag i found some performance data from various ''fast cars''

Timed with the same equipment and at the same Aerodrome as i was!!

Vauxhall VXR8 0-60 5.4 0-100 13.20
Imprezza RB320 0-60 4.8 0-100 12.52
Audi S3 0-60 6.2 0-100 14.61
DXB335D 0-60 5.4 0-100 12.55
Stock 335d 0-60 5.8 0-100 13.77

Now put that all into perspective. The VXR8 is abig engined car, people know its quick, the 335d re-mapped is clearly quicker to 100 after matching the 0-60 and will keep pulling away untill the limiter.

The Subaru Imprezza RB320 is the new Fast subaru to be in. 0-60 with its 4wd it trounces the 335d, but the 335d pulls back the gap to post an almost idenctial 0-100 time, and will go on to pull past the RB320 after 100mph!!! (due to the high trans losses on the subaru. It pulls a good start but on the roll would be mashed by the 335d)

Audi S3 is a quick car stock, but not even in stock 335d league in reality but a quick car considering

the page layout of this forum sucks .. tried many times to lay it ourt easy to read but it aint having none of it on preview!

I had a Peugeot 106 Rallye chase me out of a roundabout on Monday afternoon, so I thought "Get off my arse" and clogged it. To my surprise I was only just edging away from him by the time I reached magic numbers, so Christ knows what he had under the bonnet. I'm sure if the situation had allowed speeds approaching the 335ds maximum he would have droped away but he certainley had some usable performance.

Regards

Chris

S3 should be quicker than that 0-60

BUT, well done, the 335D does seem to be a "sleeper".

Nope,

several mags have tested them aroudn this figure. They dont put out factory quoted times

335d even in stock trim seems to beat factory quoted figures!

Remember most stock figures are for 0-62mph, not 0-60. It makes a few tenths difference!

Uh yes thanks for that. Most mags have timed the Audi 0-60 in 6.2

EVERY CAR IVE MENTIONED ABOVE IS TIMED 0-60 I HAVE THE ISSUE..

I Aitn talking stock figures but real timed figures by a magazine..

hope you now understand!

Carl, I think you may have mis-understood me.

The point i am making is that BMW give their performance figures as 0-62mph, which for the 335d is 6.1 seconds. The magazines are measuring 0-60 so their times should be quicker than the manufactures 0-62mph standard.

so if 0-62 is 6.1 seconds the 0-60 would be about 5.9 seconds.

That's the only point i am making.

Yes Rich i understand that.

Either way for stock the 335d is impressive and trounces the S3.

Re-mapped the 335d is on another performance level. Beating VXR8's from standing start and = the RB320's 0-100 time even though it was behind by 0.6 to 60mph, and would pull away from there!!

and 40mpg to boot

Carl,

All the cars are fast and the performance difference is pretty minimal on the road. The S3 has a manual gearbox compared to the 335d Auto. Therefore it will be much harder to get 'consistently' from 0 to 60 than the BMW.

Real world 30 to 70 is far more relevant and although the 335d has the kickdown and instant torque a manual car you have full control - primed in gear for an overtake for example and ready to go.

I am not knocking the 335d I have one I am just saying in real world acceleration there won't be much between any of these and the top trump stats don't always say the whole picture.

Yep i have managed to get 41mpg on an 80 mile journey (A roads and motorways). This was done by keeping a 55-65 speed on the A roads and 65-75 on the motorways, allowing the car to fall to the lower speeds on inclines.
Needless to say I had to reset the mpg counter after this as it was becoming addictive seeing how efficient i could be.

This is where your wrong gibbo, on the road the gap is bigger than standing start. the 335d is no good at stanidng starts, yes its easy to launch... but not good and not built for it...

0-60 the 335d is shite...

its main capabilities are 40-140.....

whatever i have done 0-60 0-100 the car is much more capable on the road due to midrange torque, where as the S3 is slower in real life due to its MAJOR LOSSES through the 4wd system which HELPS is standing start etc

2 real world examples

My mate has an M3... at Santa pod we both matched quarter mile times but i trapped 2 mph faster proving i was pulling awya from there..

on the road in gear 40-140 bananas per minute i pulled 8 car lengths...

another one,

at Bruntingthorpe down the back straight in gear, 80-over 140mph a 500bhp audi could not pull upto me, the 4 car length gap stayed the same... but standing start he annihilated me...

go out there gode some cars... you will be mightily impressed with ya diesel 335 gibbo

Carlos if you were 8 car lengths ahead of an M3 from 40-140, then your mate can`t drive, period. It just doesn`t happen. 60-130 seems to be the new benchmark in the states

Carl

I reakon if I put you at Santa Pod tomorrow and gave you 1 run in a 330d Manual and then 1 run in a 330d Auto you would be quicker in the auto.

What do you think.

HE CAN FOOKIN DRIVE..

like i said standing start both did 13.5 but i was 2mph faster... in gear i pulled like a c*** id never expect you to want to hear that etc..
