If the engine is all put together now and running i cant see why you cant have it back.
No it was running on all four - not had any engine faults lights on ever - unlike the new normal 320i engine.

Maybe they have been instructed to bed in the engine - who knows. I'm not in a rush to get it back. I'm just intrigued at what has been done and the in's and outs of it all.

My pressure is good so far - unless they tell me they've blown the engine up when they started it (this has happened to a few colleagues who have had a new engine - non BMW cars btw!)

OK, but if I hear a loud rumbling and see a huge column of smoke and ash in the southwest I'll know.

Mowgli,

Don't take this the wrong way but............
a) Are you on some kind of medication?
b) Have a great sense of humour that you tend to share only with yourself?
c) None of the above and you are lost somehow........suggest you head for the Jungle

ShereKhan is having ENGINE problems!!!

Tyre Compression.......kind of close, but NO CIGAR

Thank you PhilR for that information
But you're right on two counts, medication and weird sense of humour.

What in an engine needs compression?

Hmmm, never heard of the cycle SUCK-SQUEEZE-BANG-BLOW? That SQUEEZE is compression. When it is inefficient for various reasons such as worn piston rings, poorly sealing or worn valves, or blown head gasket the compression drops and robs -- more properly fails to provide -- the engine of power, depending upon the severity of the problem.

Got my car back today - Just had a look at the engine bay - everything is gleaming even the carbon fibre cam cover is gleaming.

Will see how I get on in the next week or so. Stealer has advised 1500 mile run in for the engine - sounds a lot more than the factory.

One strange thing is that the rear brakes need changing in 2.4k miles - when it went in they were at 17k miles.

So it'll be back in again in a few weeks

I would much rather prefer they change only the top end as they have done to yours. I think you get more problems having a full engine change, too many things plug into them these days.

10 years ago I would have gone for a full engine change

go and count the branches on the inlet manifold or remove the plastic cover and see how many coil pack plugs you have. we'll wait.

I think there are few chimps on here who have hijacked this post.

Nizar I think you may have spent too much time in the "coffee bars" of Holland.

One of my neighbour's who is a mechanic by trade has had a look over the engine.

Visually he can see that a lot of new parts have been fitted.
The engine seems to run up ok - no more stalling. I've done 300 miles so far so we shall see.

The engine does feel very "tight" I am bedding in as recommended by stealer (1500miles). So keen to get those miles out of the way.

The strange thing is that when the car went in the rear and front pads were due in about 15k miles. Now the rears need doing in 1500 miles!! WTF?

So its another service due this month then another next month as the brake fluid needs doing 07/08 according to the OBC.

The stealer also forgot to stamp my service book so will get that done when in next. If I had bought this car privately I would have made sure that I got the inclusive service pack!!

Glad I'm not paying for the servicing costs!! I bet my lease company have calculated the servicing costs wrong..... Heh! Heh! Suckers!
