Stoptech SS brake line failed almost crashed

FINAL UPDATE
I DID NOT install the brake line incorrectly. Stoptech has the wrong part # on their website / database which causes all the vendors to sell the wrong FRONT brake line for the AWD 328i. They used the RWD e90 brake line part # on the 328i xdrive / 328xi. The correct ones shouldbe the same as 335i xdrive / 335xi.

REALOEM shows that AWD 335xi and 328xi shares the same brake line, but does not share the same brake line with the RWD 335i and 328i.

Stoptech database 328xi WRONG PART #:

Stoptech database 335xi Part #

Size: 314.5 KB

Here is the correct part #
RWD 328i and 335i: 950.34013
AWD328i xdrive and 335i xdrive: 950.34023

Backstory:
While I was leaving a parking lot, , the brake lost all the pressure when I pressed on it. i had to use the handbrake immediately. I found lots of brake fluid on my front left wheel. I was 2mins away from home, so I drove home and inspected the brake. Found out the brake fluid cylinder is almost empty, the Stoptech SS brake line has a crack.
These brake lines have only been on the car for a year and 4 months old. I thought stainless steel was supposed to be an "upgrade" and a lot stronger than oem rubber brake line.

The stoptech brakeline has two rubber while the OEM only has one as there's only one slot.

Found out the other side is rubbing too

Stoptech SS brake line is LONGER than OEM brake lines which cause more bents once it has been installed. Over time, the brake line would shift its position causing it to rub on surface in the wheelwell

Probably due to installation error. Post photos here.

Get a set of Goodridge g-stop series or phantom.

Did you change the brakes recently, bleed them, or change out the brake fluid ?

SS lines are almost fool proof and are definitely an upgrade in terms of pedal feel.

I have Goodridge phantom SS lines and love them.

It was probably bending instead of just moving with the rest of the suspension and it kinked that cause it to tear.

Possibly too much tension on the line with that zip tie.

That's what it looks like, stress riser on the inside of the bend radius. Should be free to move but constrained like with the stock 'clip'.

Seems to me you should be filing a complaint with whoever put that zip tie on, not Stoptech

Thanks for the clarification. Were the two support points that close where the rubber grommets are in the picture?

I moved it while I was removing the brake line.

The #2 rubber on the SS was sitting in the slot (where OEM #1 was sitting before installation), while #1 is not locked into place because there's no spot for it.

Got it, thanks. That's how mine are as well. Weird.

Nice try. Certainly doesn't seem like it. Way too much salt deposit on that ziptie. It has been there for a while.

It was either damaged before install or while driving. My brake sensor was once sliced and it looked like a razor was used. Never drive over anything weird. Something had to get kicked up and sliced it.

Cutting through stainless mesh braid is not easy. I've done it before, it frays a lot unless what you use is super sharp.

It does not look like abrasion wore through it. It would of have to been on a sharp sharp edge imo.

Something cut it, something sharp.

My guess is some fucking punk ordered these, did not fit or need them and cut them on purpose. Stoptech never caught it upon return inspection. They probably do a visual which is fine for 99% of returns. I can't imagine they would pressure test a return.

If anyone has a better story as to what happened let's hear it.

OP: when you take it off clean it up and take some more pictures close up.

Edit: and yes the salt on the zip the is questionable but it could have got there if his hands or gloves were covered in winter crap...But I agree it is suspect.

Edit #2 how does it go from a 1/4 slice in picture 1 to cut in half picture 2? OP did you cut it for removal for some reason? Either way pic 3 shows how it will fray...looks like a cutting tool was used...

Ok, so any back story on your life? Stole someone's woman? You cheated? Who did you got so upset? Is horrible and scary experience you went through with this brake line. I'm glad that you are alright.
