f30luxline build progress Journal - LCI 335 MSport

Hi everyone. I just picked this beaut! It's a '12 MSport. I traded in my F30 328i for it, hence my name. Previous to the F30 I owned a GSM e92 328. I am completely stock for now except for the wheels. I was able to carry over the wheels from my F30. I have attached some pics for your viewing pleasure. Couple more weeks and I'll be ready to pull the trigger on the items below.

F30 build

PLANS

Suspension
- BC Coils. Had them on my F30 and was really happy with them for being a very affordable, entry level system. Very adjustable which made them comfy, even when dropped 3". These have already been ordered.

Performance
- JB4. Also on F30
- VRSF DP
- VRSF CP
- VRSF 7" IC
- VRSF Catback
- BMS Intake

Cosmetic
- Mainly some misc items. These items are usually last on my list after performance.

I had no idea you could run a JB4 on an N20 engine haha. How much were you pushing when you had your full setup?

Thx! I'm glad to be back. The quality and craftsmanship is definitely lacking in the Fxx chassis. Being mine was a '12 it was mostly the earlier years as they have made some vast improvements in the later years.

They are Niche wheels. Just put them on, the F, a few weeks ago. Had Beyern Mesh previously.

My peak numbers were 291/364. The power came on very early in the RPM range. I was hitting peak boost of 23psi and 364ft-lbs both at 2800 RPM, this made it a monster on the street. I felt the n20 couldn't handle much more than this without turbo upgrades and a DME flash. Both of which are very new for this platform. I didn't feel comfortable pushing the limits so reverted back to a proven platform.

The new niche wheels look great. Is the lip painted white, or are they just REALLY clean?!

What are the rim and tire specs you are running on those. Looks good even without the drop yet.

F 19x8.5 35et 235/35
R 19x9.5 35et 275/30

I also had to add 5mm spacers that I once used on the F30 (w/the Beyern's). Once I install my coils I will probably step up to 10 or 15mm spacers. I will have to see how it sits with the coils. I only plan on dropping about 1"~1.5".

Close up pic of the wheel

One word of advice on the VRSF exhaust. It sounds awesome and looks great but if you live in an area with speed bumps you are screwed. I had the exhaust before my car was lowered and it scraped on just about every speed bump and eventually one of the v-band clamps broke. Just a word of advice if you are going to be lowered. Other than that the mod list looks great!

Couple pics after the install today. It's actually a little hard to see the difference. I think because the car is black so the tires and wheel gap blend into the body of the car.

There were a couple issues that came up.

1 - The front speed sensor lines to not reach where the bracket is positioned.
2 - The (oem) bracket for the bracket lines needed to be bent to allow more slack in the lines.
3 - The rear shock length is really a pita to adjust. I will be contacting BC to see if they recommend a procedure for this. What makes it hard is that once the stem is in the lower mount (top mount already torqued down) with the suspension not compressed the stem is at an angle causing the lower shock housing to bind with the upper threaded part. This makes it impossible to adjust. Adjusting the shock length is important as to keep pre-load on the spring.
4 - The engine compartment bracing conceals the adjustment knob. Not too much of an issue just not really convenient.
5 - Completely forgot the rear shock tops are concealed and this is where the adjustment is. Going to have purchase the extenders from BC. The F30 mounting is in the wheel well so this is where the adjustment is, no need to do anything in the cargo area.

1 & 2 I feel are craftsmanship and quality issues. I currently have the speed sensors zip-tied out of the way.

I had to take the 5mm spacers of the rear. Will be getting my fenders rolled soon and then will add them back on.

Some crappy phone pics. Will be washing her up tomorrow and get better pics.

I don't care for black wheels. I prefer to have contrast. Being that I carried these wheels over, when I am due for new tires I will also get new wheels. Thinking maybe a bronze-ish/gold-ish wheel.

The fronts are set to the lowest. BC should have designed it so that when set at the highest it would still give it a drop. The stock struts having such a short piston is probably the reason they couldn't.

Ah yes yes first color I thought was black but since you mention those colors it would work out well too...

I haven't been around in a while since this.......

Accident occurred May 12th and the body shop had the car until July 1st. To make a long story short, the body shop was an extremely horrible mechanic. I ended up taking it to my indy shop to get some resolution, of course the insurance paid for it. My shop ended up replacing the axle and tightening the diff mount bolt that was left loose. Total damage was 15k.

The car drives and behaves just as it did before. No ill side affects from the repair.

During the visit to my shop I had fbo's installed but I installed a JB4 and Burger intake myself. I was on the dyno prior for a baseline and pulled a max of 281/295. I will be back on within the week.
