Projects!

So what great project cars have you owned?

Mine has got to be the MX, so many things to try!! At the moment it's back to standard due to me going to Carbs and not being able to get the right set up...

so it's back to FI

Next is going to be the project that I stick to, its either not going to be a Mazda anymore (fit an RV8 engine - which is doable) or it's going FI power, which I'm a bit dubious of but it's a lot more bang for your buck so to speak!!

Always liked revvy screaming n/a engines or burbly V8s over turbos anyone find me a Honda S2000 engine cheap .....

The E30 is more or less dead at the moment and needs major work doing, it looked very good when I bought it too think I'll keep it and do it up gradually will take ages but hey ho I can't afford to take it to a garage may as well learn some new stuff along the way! Would love it to be ready for UK6 but I very much doubt it as the cosmetic work that it needs doing will have to go to the coachworks and I need to save some money for that lol!

I like Mk. 1 Escorts! I had a 1964 MGB that was forever having bits being welded on, well good fun though, wish I'd never sold that car, ditto with the 911 I owned Oh well onwards and erm downwards in my case lol!

My '65 Mustang fastback is getting a 5 speed manual box and changed diff ratio. It's almost done apart from issues with getting the speedometer to read correctly.

Current project is a 1988 E30 325i touring.

Interior is sorted, engine is sorted and sweet as a nut, and the suspension and handling including all bushes and new anti roll bars will be done by next week.

Towards the end of the year it will have a full re-spray and a few little tweaks here and there and it will be better than when it came out the factory.

Tried to talk my wife into selling her Smart for one of these a few months ago. Got told to f**k off!!!!

Might just buy one without her knowing. A 88/89 325 M Sport would be nice.

Cheers Carlos.

I have to say I bought it as a bit of a laugh, but I have fallen in love with it, I am smitten!!

And it has taught me more about driving in the few months I have had it than my previous 20 odd cars ever have!!

A real gem, everyone should give one a good home!

I am on the look out for a spanking 325i e30 m sport in dolphin grey circa mid 80s

OR a ford escort mk3 1600i original same 83 84 again must be mint

Both low mileage

I have been looking for six months and cant find what im looking for I did see a beautiful lancia integrale but its LHD. Also found a mint Audi quattro but it was to much for a sunday toy at 17500 and the digital dash was very weird .

Dolphin Grey is the one to go for.

I have owned 2 RS1600i's. A black one in 1989 with a Richard Longman ECU. Would beat standard RS Turbos and still give boosted ones a run for their money. Also had a white one in 1997. Shouldn't have sold the white one but needed the cash at the time.

Integrale. Been on the shopping list for some years and have never done it...yet!!

Also would like to walk out on the drive and shout 'FIRE UP THE QUATTRO!!' a nice white short wheel base one

Porscha, there was a civic type R engine and running gear on PH the other day.

Next project for me, is to rebuild internals and then some serious boost but I was also behind a Black Sagaris yesterday that was just awesome.

Wayhey!

This has taken off quite nicely now, well onto my projects E30 is sat in my grandmas garage and I won't get to even see it til she decides to visit the UK, all cleaned down but I can't afford to start it yet

MX5 is no further on either, damn money if only we could get some type of project car benefit lol better than spending it on the wasters

My mum has had some awesome project cars over time including firing up a quattro

Dream projects:
Porsche 356
Porsche 911T
Porsche 911 RS
Porsche 944 turbo (realistic)
TVR Wedge (realistic)
MGB Roadster (done and realistic)
BMW E30 M3 (doubt it would need to be a project!)

First car was a 2.0L Capri it was really fun to learn to drive in

Had an old tan coloured 850cc mini and fitted it with a 1400cc Leyland B engine in it with heavy mods, I lost count of how many engine mounts and exhausts it broke

Bought a yellow TR7 with a black stripe for fun and stuck a 3.5L engine in it

I still like to get my hands dirty but don't really get the time these days

I must admit it did have an LSD and the headlights would go up and down in turn which was funny

It lasted until the engine melted down on the motorway then I scrapped it

In my book, any car with lights that pop up and down is miles better than the E9x crap we drive...

Yes, are you boys seeing sense?

Pop-up headlamps rule.

Why do no modern cars have popup headlamps?

hehe Do we have our very own, New Carlos?!

I've got a much cooler gadget on my car than what you have on your E9Xs, you all know you want some.

Just spent this past week on my back under my RS2000.

Was already good in the suspension Dept.

But ....

Now has rose-jointed fully adjustable (camber) Ford RS track control arms, hi-ratio quick rack, RS green track rod ends, double width anti-dive kit, fully poly bushed throughout. New vented GP1 discs, 4-pot light alloy calipers, GP4 steering coupling. And no play whatsoever ...

An absolute hoot to drive ! Darts about like a wee beauty. The 2.1 engine is on song, razor sharp throttle response through the rwin 44 IDF downdraughts. Barks with the intake roar.

Sideways almost everywhere. Luckily the locally bobbies are RS fans, but shouldn't push it ..

Pics to follow.

Got to clean the oil from under my nails. And have a wee sit down ... got to the Post Office with 5 minutes to spare to get my road tax. Drove straight from the tracking to get an MOT (Helps to own a garage though ) .

Still smiling

D.
